All employees are required by the State Department of Finance to sign up for full (100%) direct deposit (Department of Finance Operating Policy and Procedure PAY0001, Direct Deposit of Employee Pay, as permitted under M.S. 177.23, subd. 4). The Payroll Direct Deposit Authorization and Instructions are available from the human resources office or on the following website: https://www.s4web.state.mn.us/psp/employee/?cmd=login
Direct deposit assures that your pay is deposited in your account on payday Friday. Employees may acess their payroll information online and access other benefit information when at this website as well. This website will undergo continual improvement to enable additional online information and employee self service options in the future.
Classified and Unclassified Professional/Supervisory Employees
Most full-time employees work five consecutive, eight-hour days; however,
alternate schedules may be available. The pay period covers two full
workweeks, 80 hours for full-time employees. The pay period begins on
Wednesday and ends 14 days later, on Tuesday. Annual base salary for
full-time employees is calculated based on 2088 work hours per calendar
year. The "hours of work" articles in most collective bargaining agreements
outline provisions governing hours of work.
Faculty
Faculty assignments are determined in consultation with the dean/associate
dean. Full-time faculty work 171 contracted days for the academic year
according to the academic
calendar established by the College. Extra days and/or summer school
work is paid over-and-above the contracted days specified in the collective
bargaining agreements. Additional information is available in the MSCF
contract.
The Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) sets forth the provisions for compensation for time-and-a-half and overtime, and determines who is subject to and who is exempt from the Act. Rates and standards vary among the collective bargaining agreements. Consult your supervisor and collective bargaining agreement or plan for specific information. Overtime/Comp Time does not apply to faculty or administrators.
Pay is deposited directly into employee accounts as specified on the Direct Deposit Authorization form. Employees are paid biweekly; every other Friday is payday.
Classified and Unclassified Professional/Supervisory Employees There are 26 pay periods each year. The gross pay reflects the actual number of hours worked in a two-week pay period as reflected on the employee time sheet.

Classified and Unclassified Professional/Supervisory Employees
All classified and unclassified professional/supervisory employees complete
and turn in a time sheet at the end of each pay period. The time sheet
requires the employee's signature as well as your supervisor's. Consult
your supervisor for directions on completing the time sheet.
Faculty
Full-time faculty are placed on payroll for the year, so no additional
timekeeping is required. Adjunct faculty are employed and placed on
payroll semester-by-semester with no guarantees of continued employment,
and the assignment varies depending on the needs of the college.
All temporary and adjunct faculty receive a Notice of Assignment form, which informs the faculty member of their official assignment(s), length, and the wages for that appointment. Note that the notice of assignment is not an employment contract and should not be interpreted as guaranteeing a certain term of employment. Temporary and adjunct faculty must sign the notice and return it to the human resources office.
All employees complete a W-4 at the start of state employment. Employees may change the number of exemptions at any time for any reason. This form may be access at https://www.s4web.state.mn.us or contact the Human Resources office for the form.
Represented employees are placed in a bargaining unit as soon as the Appointing Authority (the college) anticipates they will work sufficient amount of time to be eligible for bargaining unit inclusion. If you are placed in a bargaining unit, you will be required to pay a fair share assessment to your exclusive bargaining representative. This assessment is to cover the cost of collective bargaining and contract enforcement. Typically, this charge amounts to 85% of the regular union dues. Your Union will provide you with more information about this assessment and with union membership information.
