ADVANCED STANDING FOR SERVICEMEMBERS OPPORTUNITY COLLEGES
(MnSCU Policy 3.17)

(RCTC Policy 3.17.9)

Part 1. Definition: Advanced Standing for Servicemembers Opportunity Colleges (SOC) was created in 1972 to provide educational opportunities to service members, who, because they frequently moved from place to place due to military service, had trouble completing college degrees. The intent is to provide education opportunities for service members and their families. Students seeking advanced standing status must apply to both the College and be a member of SOC. A SOC institution limits academic residency requirements for active-duty service members to no more than 25% of the undergraduate degree program for SOC students only to meet compliance with their requirement for membership.
Credits will be awarded the student and noted on the transcript when application for graduation from the program has been submitted. All other portions of the SOC membership are as reviewed and approved by RCTC faculty.

Date of Implementation: Fall 2003
Date of Revisions: 9/27/06 (Procedures removed from Policy)
Date of Adoption: 09/09/2003
