The
college celebrates its 65th Anniversary in the 1980-81
academic year.

In
1982 Charles Hill retires after serving as RCC’s
leader for 29 years. When Hill came to the college, it
had 236 students and occupied portions of the Coffman
Building. When he retired they occupied a
160-acre campus with 3,217 students.

Geraldine
Evans becomes the college's sixth president. Evans graduated in the late 50's. In her
sophomore year she served as the editor of the Echo
and also received a Participation Award.

Chuck
Harwood is at the reigns of Rochester AVTI and the
school celebrates its tenth anniversary in 1979.

Chuck
Blattner would return to RCC joining the music department
as band director. Aas a student, Blattner was
a Golden R recipient in 1970.

The
Music Department would make several trips to Disney
World in the late 70's and early 80’s
with Willard Johnson conducting for the day
on a couple of occasions.

Walter
Bateman retires after 34 years of teaching in 1981.

The
early 80's also marked the establishment of the
two-plus-two plan with Winona State University.

Women’s
sports officially began with the title 9 amendment
with softball in the spring of 1975. That
fall women’s volleyball and basketball would
begin play.

In
1976, RCC’s first full-time women’s
athletic coordinator and coach Jean Marconett would
come to the college.

Wrestling
coach John Philo was the first college coach to
be selected to the NJCAA Coaches Hall of Fame in
1979.

The
men’s basketball team would win the state championship under Bill Fessler in 1983.

Jean
Marconett’s 1983 volleyball team won the state
championship with a 42-8 record.

Joe
Warren become the college’s only All-American
in two sports: 1980 in football and 1981 in
baseball. Warren later becomes the head baseball
coach.
