Message from President Leslie R. McClellon
Welcome to Rochester Community and Technical College (RCTC), the oldest public two-year college in Minnesota, celebrating our 100th anniversary in 2015-16. As the fourth President of RCTC, I am proud to embark on my new presidency at the dawn of the centennial celebration for the College!
RCTC serves as a universal gateway to world-class learning opportunities. The College offers access to a wide selection of online and land-based courses and more than 70 technical and transfer programs. Moreover, our talented faculty and staff are committed to providing world-class learning opportunities in a supportive, student-centered environment. RCTC offers advising and counseling services to all students and additional advisors for veterans, persons with disabilities, international students, students of color and online learners. The College also prides itself on excellence in teaching. Since 2007, when Minnesota State Colleges and Universities began recognizing educators throughout the system for outstanding teaching, faculty at RCTC have been recognized twice as often as any other MnSCU institution.
Many of RCTC’s programs are nationally accredited, which assures employers and transfer institutions that these programs meet the high standard for quality set by accrediting bodies. In addition, the College actively collaborates with employers and university partners to ensure that students have excellent employment and transfer options once they’ve completed their studies at RCTC. More than 80 percent of RCTC graduates find employment related to their field within one year of graduating. The College’s 95 articulation agreements with two and four-year institutions ensure that credits earned at RCTC will be accepted at transfer institutions.
Our two-year college also is committed to providing the rich, whole-person college experiences typically found at four-year universities. On our beautiful 518-acre college campus, students can choose from a variety of student life programs to make connections with other students, develop leadership and life skills, and of course, have lots of fun. These programs include music, theatre, student government, a wide variety of student clubs, and the most extensive varsity sports program of any public two-year college in the state. International and service learning opportunities also offer students a way to expand their education and impact beyond the campus borders.
As an institution where respect is a core value, RCTC is a welcoming campus where we honor civility and appreciate diverse perspectives. The RCTC learning community represents persons from diverse ages, ethnic backgrounds, experiences and goals, all pursuing an extraordinary education. Our community can continue to rely on RCTC and our commitment to respecting diversity and civility.
If you’ve been thinking about college, NOW is the time for you! For the next year, RCTC is guaranteeing that tuition will remain frozen at 2012-2013 levels! In addition, more than 80 percent of our students receive some type of financial aid, and for the first time this year, part-time students will have access to Minnesota’s state grant program!
This is an exciting time for RCTC as we celebrate 100 years of service to greater Rochester Minnesota. Stay tuned to celebrate with us.
