An ADJUNCT faculty member, according to contract definition, is a person hired to teach fewer than 5 credits during the semester. An adjunct does not accrue seniority and is not probationary. His/her salary is based on education and experience and can range from $525 to $1200 per credit. This salary can increase based on Article 13, Section 14, Subdivision 2 of the faculty contract.
A temporary faculty member, according to the contract, is a faculty member hired to teach more than 5 credits. There are two kinds of temporary faculty members: TEMPORARY PART-TIME and TEMPORARY FULL-TIME.
The TEMPORARY PART-TIME faculty member is defined as a faculty member with a part-time assignment of five or more credits in a semester. This faculty member is placed on the salary schedule, pro rata, according to the number of credits s/he is teaching.
The TEMPORARY FULL-TIME faculty member has been hired for a full-time replacement for an academic year (generally a sabbatical replacement), is placed on the salary schedule, and is expected to participate in all faculty endeavors for the year. This faculty member is placed on the salary schedule and receives full salary for the year.
All adjunct and part-time faculty members for MNSCU are expected to have minimum qualifications.
If you have any questions on the definitions or on your assigned field or on licensure requirements, contact someone in the RCTC Human Resources Office or to the dean of your area.

Adjunct and part-time faculty members at RCTC are important parts of our educational community. They are naturally expected to teach in a professional manner, doing all of the activities that go along with teaching any class at a college, including timely preparation of a complete syllabus according to college guidelines; submitting that syllabus to administration; submitting mid-semester reports on students to any group on campus that asks for these reports; replying to students, other faculty, department coordinators, and/or administrators as necessary; submitting grades in a timely fashion; holding office hours; and generally completing any activities necessary to teach in a professional manner.
Adjuncts and part-time faculty will also be evaluated by the department coordinator or by an administrator (or their designee). The college evaluation process will be followed for this activity.
Beyond that, we encourage all adjuncts and part-time faculty to participate fully in the educational community here at RCTC. You have access to staff development funds (pro-rata according to your credit-load), you are invited to all college-wide staff development events, RCTC faculty CTL professional activities, to MNSCU professional activities, you can participate in committees as you wish, and you can certainly make presentations and contribute to the development of a professional atmosphere here at the college. Your participation and your ideas are important to us!
