The concept of the “common book” was started at RCTC over a decade ago by the RCTC Honors Program, and since then has become a more collaborative effort between the Honors Program and CTL and also, more recently, with WSU and UM-R.
It is a book chosen yearly or every two years by interested parties at UCR, a book meant to promote avid discussion in a variety of academic disciplines. Students read the book (or parts of it) in many classes and discuss it in relation to the tenets of that particular discipline, resulting in a cross-fertilization of knowledge.
