Letter from the RCTC Associate Dean of Teaching and Learning

August, 2006

Dear RCTC Adjuncts and Part-time Faculty:

Welcome to Rochester Community and Technical College !  Please know in advance how much we appreciate you at RCTC.  We certainly do recognize that we couldn't function without your expertise and hard work.

I have only been at RCTC since late May, but I'm starting to feel at home here, and my goal is to make sure you feel at home here, too! To that end, I plan to schedule opportunities for us to meet, chat, and learn from one another.

Please be assured that I am here to assist you, and my door is always open, as is my e-mail, figuratively speaking, of course.  If you feel there is something we could be doing to make your job easier and to make you more successful as an educator here, please do talk to me.  Ideas on how to improve are also appreciated!

That said, there are some content and discipline-related items that might be best discussed with the dean of your area, and it may be difficult to know exactly when to contact him/her and when to touch base with me.  Let me assure you that the doors of all of the deans are open to you for discussion of whatever needs you might have.

Change seems to be the norm in higher education, and RCTC is no exception.  One of the constant challenges is to assure that the change is invigorating.  Without a doubt, RCTC is an invigorating academic community, and I sincerely hope that you will feel a part of us, a part of the excitement, a part of the changes occurring, a part of us all.   Again, you are an important aspect of our success, and we thank you.

Best wishes for a great semester,

Bret R. Fuller
