Anne Breland scores her 1,000 career point

On Friday, February 13, 2009 the RCTC Yellowjackets hosted Milwaukee Area Technical College and won their 25th game in a row 94-54. The high light of the evening was Anne Breland, SO Guard from Lourdes High School scoring her 1,000 point in her 2 year career. "What an accomplishment!" Head Coach Steve Hucke exclaimed, "Anne needed 6 points going into the game and it was fun to be a part of." The Yellowjackets were a little tight as the team was trying to get Anne the 6 points that she needed early and it didn't come until about the 10 minute mark of the first half on her 2nd 3 pointer of the night. "We weren't really in a flow in the first half," Hucke explained, "we were more focused on getting the 6 points rather than just playing basketball." After Breland hit her shot the Yellowjackets went on a 17-0 run after a short ceremony. "We settled in and played basketball the rest of the way," Hucke stated, "MATC played tough and hung in there but our depth on our bench is what took its tool. Breland finished the night with 17 points, 3 3pointers and 6 rebounds, she was followed by Tess Milczark and Sam Sikkink with 15 points each, Sikkink also added 3 3pointers, Amanda Degnan chipped in with 12 points and Maria Gangelhoff and Melissa Streit each added 11 points. Streit shot 100% for the game (3/3 from 3 point land and 4/4 for the game). RCTC forced 17 turnovers and shot 60% for the game. RCTC will now travel to Ridgewater in Willmar to resume MCAC Southern Division play for a 6:00 p.m. game. "We travel our last 2 games of the conference this week," Hucke added, "so we need to be ready to play and get ready for MCAC State Tournament that starts next weekend."
