RCTC Volleyball Wins First Tournament of 2009 Season

RCTC Women’s Volleyball took first place in the Fergus Falls Invitational Tournament on Saturday, August 29th to start the season with a 4-0 match record. Coach Bell states, “The team had three weeks to prepare this year for this initial event. It was evident that their hard work and dedication from preseason resulted in the ability to execute a crisp offense. It helped that we brought back two very talented hitters, Bobbie Meier (All Tournament Team at 2009 State and Region Tournaments) and Kylie Dykes (Southern Conference leading blocker). As well we added new very talented freshman hitters from Lewiston (Alyssa Franzen) and Zimmerman (Janine Atkinson). As well, passing and defense was top-notch because we brought back an exceptional defender from last year’s team, Vanessa Lawrenz, Stewartville, and added a new defensive threat, Jennifer Henke, Rosemount. These two players passed this weekend at an exceptionally high percentage. I hope this teamwork between the two competitors will continue through the rest of the 2009 season.

• RCTC defeats Rainy River College 25-13, and 25-23
• RCTC defeats Hibbing College 25-15, and 25-22
