Men's Basketball

 

RCTC MEN finished as Runners-up for the MCAC Title on Sunday. The Yellowjackets defeated Northland 98-75 on Friday 2/27 and defeated Central Lakes on 2/28 89-85 to advance to the Championship game. On Sunday 3/1 Minneapolis defeated the Jackets 86-62. RCTC improves to 21-8 on the year and will advance to the Region Tournament in Minneapolis on Friday 3/6 vs Madison Area Technical College at 6pm.

Coach LaPlante gets 200th win!
On Wednesday January 7th, the RCTC Men’s Basketball Team beat MSCTC Fergus Falls 85-61 to move the team’s season record to 10-3. The win also was Coach Brian LaPlante’s 200th Career Win as RCTC’s Head Coach. Coach LaPlante has been leading the Yellowjacket program for the past 13 seasons. In that time his teams have twice won the MCCC southern division championship and in 2006 his squad qualified for the national tournament placing 5th overall. Congratulations on this career achievement.

The Rochester Community and Technical College Men's Basketball team has traditionally been one of the top teams in the entire state of Minnesota. Coach Brian LaPlante's teams have been 204-100 the last 10 years ('99-'09). The 2000 team was MCCC State Tournament runner-up, the 2001 team was 3rd in the MCCC State Tournament and was 3rd in the 2001 Region 13 Tournament, and the 2002 team was Co-Champions of the Southern Division and finished 5th in the State MCCC Tournament. The 2003 Yellowjackets finished 19-8 and placed 4th in the MCCC State Tournament. .The 2006 team finished 5th in the NJCAA Nat'l Tournament and were Region 13 Champs. The 2007 Team finished 21-7 and were MCCC Southern Division Champions. The 2009 team finished 21-9 and 2nd in the MCAC tournament. The Yellowjackets have sent numerous players on to play at the next level ( please look at Where are they now?) and will continue to do so. Our brand new $15 million dollar facility is among the finest in the nation and will allow our student-athletes to play in state of the art facilities.
