2007-08 Season is underway

On October 1, 2007 the RCTC Yellowjacket Women's Basketball team start their road to the National Tournament. After finishing 19-9 last year they are looking to improve on that record this season. "We feel that we have a very strong team that will be exciting to watch," Yellowjacket Head Coach Steve Hucke stated, "we are deeper at each position and will be more consistent from the outside" The 2006-07 season found the Yellowjackets finishing 2nd in the MCCC Conference Tournament and MCCC Southern Division behind National Champion Anoka -Ramsey. They Yellowjackets are hoping to turn that around this year.

The Yellowjackets return 2 players from last years team and will need to replace 3rd Team NJCAA All-American, Brittany Gladis. Leading the way will be Kasie Heimer, 5'9" Sophomore Post (13.5 ppg, 7.5 rbpg, All-MCCC Southern Division, All State Honorable Mention) from Rochester and Lisa Bicknese, 5'9" Forward from Spring Valley, MN. "Kasie will be a scorer for us and Lisa has shown inprovement in her shot and will again be counted on to be our defensive stopper," commented Hucke. A very talented group of Freshmen will help complement Heimer and Bicknese. Anne Breland, 5'11" Guard from Rochester Lourdes High School, Hannah Glor, 6'0" Post player from Lanesboro High School, Amanda Degnan, 5'11" Forward from St. Charles High School, Kristina Thompson, 5'8" Guard from Elk River High School, Kendra Heitkamp, 5'10" Forward/Post from Rosemount High School, Melissa Streit, 5'7" Guard from Maple River High School, Erin & Megan Maurer, 5'8" Twin Sisters from MaCleod West High School, Ashley Westergaard, 5'7" Guard from Rochester Mayo High School, Courtney Jones, 5'7" Guard from Kingsland High School, Bitni Mensink, 6'0" Post from Houston High School and Brittany Zipfel, 5'7" Guard from Marshfield High School (WI). "This is probably the most talented recruiting class that we had here," stated Hucke, "we will be able to do alot of different things with this group which will be fun to watch."

Coach Hucke claims that Anoka-Ramsey will be the team to beat again this year. "They are coming off a National Championship season," Hucke replied, "that will carry into this season as they return all of their players from last year." Coach Hucke also lists Northland, Mesabi, Itasca, and as contenders in the North as well as Anoka-Ramsey, Minneapolis, Fergus Falls and Ridgewater will also be teams to watch in the South. "Our conference is one of the most competitive conferences in the country," Hucke stated, "there are no easy games on our schedule."

Come on out and Cheer on the Yellowjackets!
