2010-2011 Women's Basketball Preview

The 2010-2011 Yellowjackets are looking forward to improving on a 20-7 season and 3rd Place finish in the MCAC State Tournament last season.  “We are always looking to get better!” Yellowjackets Head Coach Steve Hucke stated, “I think we have a very solid group of players this year who are capable of winning 20+ games.”  With only 2 returning players it will be a tough road as the Yellowjackets will rely on 12 freshmen to step up their game quickly and learn what it is like to play at the college level.  Returning for the Yellowjackets are starters Victoria Ledahl, 5’10” PG from Cambridge-Isanti and 5’8” G, Brittni Mayer from Dover-Eyota.  They will be joined this year by a talented group of freshmen.  Aly Meyer, 6’0” Post Player from Caledonia, Desirae Lee, 5’9” F/P from Dover-Eyota, Natalia Baker, 5’6” G from Dover-Eyota, Lane Gehl, 5’9” F, Fulda, Megan Fleming, 5’6” PG from Red Wing, Cortney Kasten, 5’10” F/P from Byron,  Rachel Tate, 5’10” P from Triton, Jacey Anderson, 5’8” F from Spring Grove, Sam Storsveen, 5’9” F from Winona Cotter and Kiah Logan, 5’5” G, from Faith Christian (Rochester) who are athletic and can run the floor very well.  The Yellowjackets finished 8-4 in the MCAC Southern Division last year and feel that they can make a run at the top spot in the division if they stay healthy and play consistent basketball.  “I think once these freshmen understand what college basketball is all about,” Hucke explained, “we will be very strong down the stretch and be a team to reckon with!”  Hucke expects:  Anoka-Ramsey, Minnesota West and Riverland as the top teams in the Southern Division with Central Lakes (newest member) as a team to keep an eye on.  In the Northern Division:  Mesabi Range, Itasca and Northland will be the teams to watch up there.  “As always it will be a competitive conference season!” Hucke commented, “Hopefully we will be there in the end!”  Come on out and cheer on the Yellowjackets!!!!!!!
