2009-2010 Women's Basketball Preview



How do you top an undefeated season and a National Championship! "You try to do it again!" 8th Year Yellowjacket Head Coach Steve Hucke stated, "Last year was special season and the bar has been set high for this season!" The excitement around Yellowjacket Women's Basketball continues as they are they get ready to start preparations for another possible tournament run. RCTC will have to replace two 1st Team All-American Anne Breland (UW-Milwaukee, NCAA DI), Honorable Mention All-American, Amanda Degnan, All-State and All-Division, Sam Sikkink (UMKC, NCAA DI), All-State and All-Division and Distinguished Academic All-American, Chelsea Wand and Tess Milczark who tranferred to NCAA DII National Champions - Minnesota State (Mankato) this season. "We lost some very significant players from last year," Hucke said, "They were all great kids on and off the court." Returning for the 34-0 Yellowjackets will beMaria Gangelhoff, 5'7" G from Sleepy Eye St. Mary's High School, Nikki Borkhuis, 5'10" F, Watertown High School (SD), Jordan Vavra, 5'10" F from Cambridge-Isanti High School, Kandace Bostick, 5'7" G Burnsville High School and Lisa Kingsley(knee injury), 5'9" F Rochester John Marshall High School will hope to lead a very talented freshmen class. That freshmen class includes Whitney Fick, 6'1 P Lake City, Victoria Ledahl, 5'10 G Cambridge-Isanti, Brittni Mayer, 5'6" G Dover-Eyota, Heather Hodnett, 5'10" F/P Chippewa Falls (WI), Ashley Harles, 5'10" F/P Sisseton (SD), Emily Dosmann, 6'0" P Rogers, Krystle Sell, 5'5" G Red Rock Central, Capriece Ogris, 5'5" G Cooper High School, Michelle O'Malley, 5'10" G Jordan, Jackie Quistorff, 5'10" P, Osakis and Alyssa Finstuen, 5'8" F Pine Island who are vying for a spot on the team. "We should have some very tough battles," Hucke commented, "will make practice very competitive." Riverland, Anoka-Ramsey and RCTCare who Coach Hucke feel will be contenders in the MCAC Southern Division. Mesabi Range, Northland, and Itasca will be teams to beat in the Northern Division of the MCAC.
