Yellowjackets 69-57. The Yellowjackets move to 11-7 and 2-1 in the MCCC

issues as they committed 31 turnovers. "It isn't hard to find the
statistics that show the end result," Hucke replied, "18 Offensive
boards, 31 turnovers and 53% from the free throw line will not win games."
Leading the way for RCTC was Kasie Heimer with 22 points and 7 rebounds
and Jessica O'Leary chipped in 12 points. Chelsea Jajowka added 9 points
with 2 3 pointers. "I thought we had some players step up today,"

field and only 50% from the free throw line. "That doesn't help either,"
Hucke replied. Kasie Heimer chipped in 13 points off the bench and Chelsea
Jajowka added 6 points. Courtney Thompson had 4 assists and played a good
defensive game. RCTC's record moves to 11-6 overall and 2-0 in the MCCC

score to within 3 then RCTC was able to hit a couple of shots and free

a little and they took advantage of it." The Yellowjackets were paced

pointers and Chelsea Jajowka chipped in with 10 points and 2 3 pointers.
Brittany Gladis scored 8 points but ripped down 9 rebounds to contribute
in the win. "We need to play 40 minutes in order to truly be a contending
team," Hucke replied, "I will take the win as they will not
get any easier as the season goes." RCTC will travel to Fergus Falls
on Wednesday, January 10 to take on Minnesota State Community and Technical
College. "Due to some low numbers they elected to go Club this year,"
Coach Hucke Said, "they are playing well and it is always tough to
win on the road." The Yellowjackets improve to 11-5 overall and 2-0

from the free throw line (15-18) and played a very controlled game for
their first conference win to open up the MCCC Season. "We were patient
at the line and our shot selection was the best it has been all season,"

was Trisha Peterson with 20 points, she was 5 - 5 from the Free Throw
line and 3-5 from the 3 point line. Brittany Gladis followed with her

stated Hucke, "everyone contributed and when you can get quality
time and points from your bench then you will have a successful season."
Stacia Beadles came off the bench to score 4 points but played tremendous
defense and really worked hard when she was in the game. "She is
starting to come around and be the player that we felt she would be for
us," stated Hucke, "she played guard in high school and has
made the transition to post for us very well." RCTC improves to 10-5
and 1-0 in the conference. The Yellowjackets host Riverland on Saturday,
January 6, 2007 starting at 1:00. Come on out and cheer the Yellowjackets
to victory!
DECEMBER 2006
Poor shooting and lazy defense leads to a 59-57 loss
"We led at halftime but it felt like we were fighting and uphill
struggle," Hucke commented, "a lack of effort in the first 5
minutes of the second half resulted in our loss" RCTC committed 5
straight turnovers with their first 5 trips down the court to start the
second half and Mesabi responded with a 10-0 run to open up the game.
"I did feel that we finally settled down and made a run at it late
in the second half," Hucke stated, "we had a great shot to tie
it but the shot went in an out" Leading the way for the Yellowjackets
was Trisha Peterson with 15 points, Chelsea Jajowka with 11 and Kasie
Heimer with 11 as well. Brittany Gladis and Jessica O'Leary spent the
majority of the game on the bench with foul trouble and then fouling out.
"Brittany and Jessica were caught up in the frustration of their
games that led to their fouls," replied Hucke, "we need them
on the floor so hopefully they learned their lessons." RCTC moves
to 9-5 with the loss and will host Ridegwater College on Wednesday January
3, 2007 in the MCCC Season opener. "We will need to be focused and
play 40 minutes of basketball to get our first conference win," stated
Hucke.
RCTC 63 Iowa Central 53
On December 29, 2006 the Yellowjackets traveled to Minneapolis CTC to
take on Iowa Central out of Fort Dodge, IA. "I felt that we tired
them out late in the game and that was a big factor in the outcome,"
Head Coach Steve Hucke stated. RCTC's pressure helped the Yellowjackets
with their 9th win of the season. RCTC was led in scoring by Brittany
Gladis who had 20 points, she was followed by Kasie Heimer with 13 and
Trisha Peterson added 11 points to pace the scoring attack. "We got
some great looks at the basket," Hucke commented, "they played
a tough defense but I felt that we were patient enough to win this game."
RCTC improves to 9-4 on the season and will play Mesabi on December 30,
2006 also in Minneapolis. "Our games with Mesabi are always a battle,"
replied Hucke, "this will be a good test for us as Mesabi comes in
ranked 5th in the latest NJCAA DIII Poll."
YELLOWJACKETS DEFENSE WEARS OUT WTC
Saturday, December 16, 2006 the RCTC Yellowjackets swarmed the Caviliers
for a 75-51 upset of the 4th ranked team in NJCAA DIII latest poll. "I
felt that we wore them out midway through the first half," stated
RCTC Head Coach Steve Hucke, "and in the second half our defense
set the tone early and they got tired and frustrated." RCTC for 23
turnovers and only gve up 3 offenseive rebounds in the second half. "Rebounding
was a big key for us in the second half,"commented Hucke, "they
were staying with us in the first half due to 9 offensive rebounds and
we wanted to take that away from them." The Yellowjackets out rebounded
WTC 38-33 and made 7 3 pointers to pace the scoring. Kasie Heimer came
off the bench and scored 19 points and 4 rebounds, she was followed by

and gives us another weapon to bring in the game." Abby Lindquist
had her best offensive game with 7 points, 2 3 pointers and 4 assists,
Danielle Stortz game off the bench and provided a strong defensive effort.
"We have been trying to get Abby more involved offensively so it
was good to see her knock down some shots, " added Hucke, "Also
Danielle and Lisa Bicknese really played great defense and shut down WTC's
Offense. The Yellowjackets improve to 8-4 on the season and are off until
December 29 and 30 when they participate in the Minneapolis Community
and Technical College Tournament. RCTC will play Iowa Central Community
College at 2:00 on the 29th and Mesabi Range CTC on the 30th at 2:00.
"These will be 2 good games for us to play," Hucke stated, "they
are quality opponents and we will get a true test as to where we are at
this point."
Great Defense, Poor Offense results in 40-37 loss
"Usually when you hold a team to 40 points you beat them by 20 points,"
Head Coach Steve Hucke commented, "but when you shoot as bad as we
did you will not win many games." NIACC played a stingy Man to Man
and RCTC had some difficulties scoring early. "We just weren't patient
enough and it hurt us." The Yellowjackets ran a fullcourt Man to
Man late in the first half and into the second half and NIACC had some
difficulties moving the ball against it. "Our defensive effort tonight
was tremendous as it has been the last 5 games," Hucke stated, "our
offense needs to step up and back it up." RCTC was led in scoring
by Kasie Heimer, back from having a tooth removed on Friday, with 18 points.
She was the only player in the game to score in double figures. "It
was a weird game," Hucke replied, "It seemed like either one
of us didn't want to win the game." RCTC will host Western Technical
College from LaCrosse this Saturday, December 16 at 5:00. "This should
be a good game," stated Hucke, "they beat us the first time
and are currently ranked 5th in the NJCAA." "We have some unfinished
business to accomplish this weekend and I know the Women will be ready
to play," Hucke stated. RCTC in 7-4.
Lack of effort leads to a 59-45 loss for the Yellowjackets
"I felt that we just didn't put out the kind of effort that we are
capable of doing today," Yellowjacket Head Coach Steve Hucke commented,
"we were without Kasie Heimer this weekend (tooth being pulled) and
Brittany Gladis isn't 100% but we should get more out of who we had."
Poor shooting and being slow on defense were to key factors in the loss.
"We missed tons of shots early and that had an effect on us mentally,"
stated Hucke, "but at the the college level you have to overcome
situations like that and forge ahead." RCTC was led in scoring by
Brittany Gladis, who played her heart out with 18 points and Jessica O'Leary
with 13. Brittany added 7 rebounds and Jessica contributed with 9 rebounds.
The Yellowjackets were out rebounded 46-39 after that was suppose to a
team focus for this game. "We were out hustled for every rebound
and that was a big factor in this game," Hucke stated, "we talked
about rebounding being a key prior to and during the game." "I
take nothing away from Rainy River," Hucke replied, "they played
a great game today and forced us to meet their challenge." RCTC moves
to 7-3 and travels to Mason City to take on NJCAA DII North Iowa Area
Community College. "We beat them the first time so it will be a battle."
RCTC Rolls in 78-33 win at Hibbing
After a a slow start due to a 5 hour bus ride, RCTC warm-up and got their
legs under them for their 6th straight win at Hibbing on Friday, December
8, 2006. "Its tough to get off the bus and play right away,"
Hucke commented, "its not a great excuse but it just took a while
to get our legs going." The Yellowjackets defense really fed into
their offense as their full court pressure and intense halfcourt man to
man really gave Hibbing some trouble. "They had a hard time bringing
the ball up against our press which led to some easy buckets," replied
Hucke. They forced 22 turnovers and forcing Hibbing into shooting only
18% from the field. RCTC shot 39% from the field and 37% from the 3 point
line. "I felt that we shot well and took good shots," stated

of the opportunities." RCTC was led in scoring by Chelsea Jajowka
who scored a career high 21 points with 5 3 pointers. Jessica O'Leary
chipped 18 points and Trisha Peterson added 14 for the Yellowjackets.
Abby Lindquist helped to feed the scoring frenzy with 8 assists. Brittany
Gladis who was nursing a thigh muscle pull didn't score much but she hauled
down 10 rebounds and had 4 block shots. "You could tell that Brittany
was hurting but she gutted it out," stated Hucke, "Chelsea really
stepped up her game and picked up the scoring slack." RCTC improves
to 7-2 on the season and plays at Rainy River in International Falls on
Saturday, December 9 at 1:00.

going and really played a great game." Chelsea Jajowka, starting
her second game chipped in 8 points and 5 assists to help round out the
scoring. RCTC out rebonded them 35-30 but gave up 20 offensive boards.

replied Hucke, "but we did so many other things well that we were
able to get the victory." THe Yellowjackets pressed 35 minutes and
forced 23 turnovers and their half court defense played with alot of intensity
through out the game. "If we can maintain that type of intensity
the rest of the season," Hucke commented, "then we will have
alot of fun!" RCTC improves to 6-2 for the season. They travel to
Hibbing and International Falls this weekend. "It is always tough
to go on the road and play," stated Coach Hucke, "hopefully

one of our best games." RCTC defeated MSCTC 72-65 to improve to 14-9
overall and 4-3 in the MCCC. "It is always tough to play in Fergus,"
stated Hucke, "but we really played a great game." The "TWIN
Towers" Rebekah Fitzgerald and Brittany Gladis combined for 50 points
with Fitzgerald scoring 26 and Gladis adding 24 to go along with 15 rebounds.
"They were unstoppable," replied Hucke, "our guards got
the ball to them at the right times and they were on." Katy Schlicker
played her best game of the year with 7 points, 8 rebounds, 7 assists
and 4 steals. "Katy really played like we felt she would all season,"
Hucke commented, "she really did a nice job of getting the ball to
Brittany and Rebekah." RCTC shot 57% from the field and 75% from
the Free throw line while forcing MSCTC into shooting 33% from the field
and 65% from the line while forcing 23 turnovers. "I felt our defensive
intensity was the key," stated Hucke, "we outrebounded them
47-27 which is the main reason why we beat them." RCTC is at home
this week hosting Riverland at 6:00 on Wednesday, February 8 and on Saturday,
hosting Minnesota West at 1:00 both games will be held at the Regional
