Advanced Standing for Tech Prep
ADVANCED STANDING FOR TECH
PREP (SOUTHERN MINNESOTA EXISTING TECH PREP ARTICULATIONS)
(RCTC Policy 3.15.2)
Part 1. Definition: Rochester Community and Technical College's
policy on Advanced Standing for Tech Prep is designed to recognize a student's
successful completion of a specific course at the participating high school
that is identified as equivalent to its RCTC course counterpart. High
School students who demonstrate they have mastered specific course competencies
at the high school level will receive an Advanced Standing Certificate
that will be used to fully acknowledge their competence in the course.
Students will have the opportunity to apply credits earned through Advanced
Standing Certificates to a specific program of study at Rochester Community
and Technical College.
Part 2. Guidelines:
- The student must earn no less than a B at their high school for
the final grade for a specific course.
- The student must be a junior or senior to receive the Advanced Standing
Certificate.
- The student must enroll at Rochester Community and Technical College
within two years of high school graduation.
- Advanced Standing Certificates are available for the following classes:
- Basic Engine Performance
- Basic Auto CAD
- Engine Service
- Introduction to Automotive Technology
- Starting and Charging Systems
- Beginning Word Processing
- Keyboarding
- Nursing Theory I/Clinical I (Nurse Aid)
- Advanced Standing Certificates may be used only in completing requirements
for a specified program of study.
- A maximum of 12 semester credits earned through Advanced Standing
Certificates may be applied to a program of study.
Part 3. Process:
- Students will wish to apply Advanced Standing Certificates to a
specific program of study will present their Advanced Standing Certificate(s)
to the College Registrar to receive credit.
- The Registrar will post credit earned to the student transcript
as a credit earned for the RCTC equivalent course.
- Students may use the credits to apply toward specific program requirements.
Part 4. Standards:
Participating Program Leaders will follow standards established through
the articulation agreements developed by cooperatively by Dakota County
Technical College, Inver Hills Community College, Minnesota West Technical
College, Red Wing-Winona Technical College, Winona-Winona Technical
College, Ridgewater Community College, South Central Technical College,
and North Mankato.
Part 5. Articulation Agreements:
Current Articulation Agreements: In April 1998 five vocational articulation
workshops were held that focused on articulation discussions between
high school and college faculty. Our purpose was to communicate with
high school teachers what the expectations and requirements were in
college technical semester courses.
- Twenty-three advanced standing agreements resulted from these workshops.
If high school students demonstrate they have mastered these competencies
at the high school level they will receive an advanced standing certificate.
