Career/Program Overview
Bioinformatics is the field of science in which biology, computer science, and information technology merge to form a single discipline. The ultimate goal of the discipline is to enable the discovery of new biological insights and to create unifying principles in biology from a global perspective. RCTC offers an Associate in Science (A. S.) degree in Pre-Bioinformatics.
Curriculum-at-a-Glance
Coursework includes: Chemical Principals I and II, Genetics, Concepts of Biology, Calculus I, and Discrete Mathematics. General education requirements include courses in: written and oral communication, critical thinking, history and social and behavioral sciences, humanities - the arts, literature and philosophy.

Program/Degree Options
RCTC offers an Associate in Science (A. S.) degree
in Pre-Bioinformatics. The second two years of a four-year degree can be completed at Winona State University by taking the Bioinformatics track to earn a Bachelor of Science (B. S.) degree in Applied Computer Science.

Students can begin general education requirements any semester.
Career Opportunities/Information
Employment is available with private and public industries, research institutions, government institutions and universities around the world. Jobs are available as programmers, data analysts, senior level scientists and research directors. The demand will significantly increase with advances in genomics and post genomic research.
