Welcome to Learning Is ForEver

Courses / Sessions:

A Parking Tip:
If your class is in a Heintz Room starting with the letter HA then we recommend that you park on the EAST SIDE of the center.  If, however, your class is in HB117, then you will find it more convenient to park in the WEST LOT. Wherever you park, come with an open mind and the high expectation that a worthwhile class is waiting for you.

Dear Friends of LIFE,

LIFE's Garden Party, a celebration to recognize our current members and an endeavor to "grow" our membership is Tuesday, September 1, 2009, in the Horticulture Gardens at RCTC, Heintz Center. The Board of LIFE at the recommendation of Paul Olander, Marketing and Membership Chair, wishes to showcase the mission of providing educational and personal growth opportunities for older adults. See the front cover for details. Invite all your friends who are interested in enriching their lives through continued learning and social interaction.

Recent studies by the Mayo Clinic and the Vital Aging Network of Minnesota list the three primary requirements for aging well are a) stay mentally active b) socialize regularly and c) exercise. The "Edward M. Kennedy Serve America Act" signed by President Obama on April 21, 2009 improves service options for experienced Americans by expanding age and income eligibility through the Silver Scholars Program. Older Americans are being recognized for their experience and past contributions. LIFE is determined to grow that experience and knowledge through exciting, informative classes, and interesting dialogue among it's participants.

Fall 2009, through the efforts of our dedicated Senior Program Director, Chrisanne Pieper, presents a spectacular calendar of thirty two classes and six One-Day Trips. A new focus: Political Philosophy Club, by Dr. Kevin Halling will facilitate the discussion of four political philosophies on four monthly Saturday mornings at UMR. Four books will be used for this class (see class schedule).

A grateful "thank you" to retiring board members: Bob Mayhew, Carolyn Chaapel, Jim Wignes, Roger Field, and Pat Walsh. Your contributions of time and talent have enriched the LIFE Program. The Green Tree, the icon for LIFE, has grown and blossomed through your service.

LIFE has an abundance of great people and great programs and this is why we are determined "to grow." We need you, we need your friends, and your friends need us! See you under the "big tent" at the Horticulture Garden on Tuesday, September 1, 2009.

---- Ione Schloegel, LIFE Board President
