Math Corps

Math Tutor: 200 positions statewide

Description of positions

Begin your career with meaning: Grow the skills of youth.

You can help youth succeed in school by showing them they can do math. Every year, Minnesota Math Corps trains tutors to directly impact hundreds of 4th – 8th graders in schools across Minnesota. As a tutor, you will implement research-based methods to help students believe in themselves and succeed—all while building your own skills and network to embark on a successful career path.

All Math Enrichment Tutors serve 11 months as AmeriCorps members and are assigned to one school (elementary, middle or junior high school). Math Corps will provide you with extensive training, support and a curriculum that has seen real results for struggling students. You will conduct tutoring sessions during school hours with pairs of students outside the classroom. You will monitor your students’ progress and work with a coach to ensure they get on track to math proficiency by the end of eighth grade.

In exchange for your service, you will receive a modest living stipend (about $526 every two weeks for full-time and about $263 every two weeks for part-time), an education award of up to $5,645 and other benefits if eligible. Most tutors begin on the first day of the program year, August 10, 2014. Strong preference is given to applicants who can begin on time. Limited make up trainings will be available to late start tutors.

We are seeking a Nanny to stay with our children part-time during the day.  We think our kids are fun, interesting little people, and we’d love to hire a good-hearted, smart person who wants to create a connection with our family and provide a good influence for our children.

We have five kids ages 9 months to 11 years old. The older three are pretty self-sufficient (they often prepare their own meals and plan their own activities) and just need someone around, but the younger two (8 months and 3.5 years) need more supervision yet. We home school during the school year, but the kids spend a lot of time outside and playing with our animals during the summer (cats, dogs, chickens, quail).

We are located in the country on an acreage between Grand Meadow and Spring Valley, about 25 miles south of Rochester.  It’s an easy drive from Rochester, Austin, Stewartville, and most small towns in between.

Hours are during regular business hours. We both set our own schedules and occasionally work from home, so we will be around sometimes when our sitter is here. We need a nanny anywhere from 15 - 30 hours per week, and we can be flexible about how many hours and when those hours fall, as long as we have someone reliable who is a good fit with our family.

The pay will be between $10 and $15 per hour, depending upon experience and qualifications.

This would be an ideal job for a college student who can arrange their schedule to have blocks of time open during the week. We are hoping to find someone who can stay with our family for an extended period of time (not just a summer job).

Who you'll care for:

  • 2 Children aged 7 Mo-3 Yrs, 3 Children aged 7-11 years

About Our Family:

  • We homeschool our kids, so they school in the mornings and spend their afternoons in activities or creative play at home
  • We have a full shop that we encourage the kids to use to build and create.
  • Dad is an engineer and vineyard manager.  Mom is a lawyer.
  • The kids are very artistic and mechanical.  They love to craft, paint, and build.
  • The kids are very active.  TV time is limited (no TV generally with the nanny).  They spend much of their time playing outside when the weather permits.  Two of the middle boys can often be found in a tree.
  • We are a Catholic-Christian family.

We're looking for:

  • Reliable
  • Kind and Fun
  • Non-smoker
  • Comfortable with pets (outdoor dogs, cats, chicken).  You’ll have no responsibility for the animals, but they will be around.
  • Light Housekeeping (teaching and helping the kids to pick up after themselves)
  • Meal Preparation (basic prep for the kids and yourself – we’ll give you food ideas if you are here during a meal time)
  • Laundry (supervising the kids putting their own laundry away)
  • Can pick-up/drop-off (able to drive our vehicle to get kids to/from activities occasionally)

If you think you might be interested, we’d love to speak with you.  Please email shawnvogtsween@gmail.com or call 507-923-0026.
