Incoming Student Scholarships

The deadline for applying for the 2014/2015 academic year has passed. The application portal will be open on December 15, 2014 for the 2015/2016 academic year. **Names, numbers, and amounts of scholarships are subject to change. Barrone/Boynton Scholarship

Awarded to an individual interested in teaching and coaching. Preference given to students from southern Minnesota.
Brittany Bradford Memorial Scholarship

Awarded to an incoming freshman native American student. No GPA requirement. The recipient can be a student majoring in any area of study in either a technical or community college major. Financial need not required but will be considered. Preference given to native Americans. ESSAY: What does your Native American heritage mean to you?
Calvary Episcopal Church and Community Service Scholarship

The recipient of the Calvary Episcopal Church-Community Service Scholarship will be an incoming or returning student from any field of study who is completing his/her two years of studies at RCTC. The student should possess a 3.0 GPA. and exhibit financial need. The recipient will have demonstrated a commitment to community service projects with strong preference given to first generation family members.
Champa/Kereakos Scholarship

Awarded to incoming freshmen who participated in high school athletics. Preference will be given to students who plan to participate in student life activities at RCTC.
Clarence Crow Memorial Scholarship

Awarded to a deserving student with financial need in the technical programs pursuing degrees or certificates in machine tool trades, carpentry, auto mechanics, mechanical drafting, civil engineering, Building Utilities Maintenance, or boiler operations. Rochester Public Utilities employees and their children are encouraged to apply for this scholarship.
Dalsbo Family Scholarship

Will be awarded to students pursuing a medical related career who have financial need with a GPA above 2.50 or never attended college after high school for four plus years. Preference will be given to Rochester and surrounding area residents who are currently working to fund their own education.
Dollerschell Education Scholarship

Awarded to an incoming female student who plans to major in education. Student must have financial need. Preferance given to minorities. Student must achieve a minimum 2.8 GPA. to access full award.
Don and Stephanie Supalla Scholarship Fund

This scholarship will be awarded to an incoming or returning student pursuing a diploma or Associates Degree program. The student should have participated in documented measurable community service or volunteer activity. Students must have documented financial need based on information provided to the RCTC Financial Aid Office. A GPA of 2.5 is required for returning students.
Dover-Eyota Scholarship

(Application available at Dover-Eyota H.S.) To be awarded to a Dover-Eyota High School senior who will be attending RCTC after graduation.
Dr. Joel Swisher Memorial Scholarship

Awarded to an incoming student who has played football in high school, demonstrates good citizenship, has a good work ethic, and is a team player.
Eugene & Opal Weis Scholarship

Awarded to incoming students pursuing a degree in the building trades. Must be graduates of Rochester public high schools who possess talent, aptitude and enthusiasm for the building trades. Attach letter of recommendation with application from high school teacher.
Florence A. Curtis Nursing Scholarship

The recipient of the Florence A. Curtis Nursing Scholarship will be an incoming student pursuing a A.S. Nursing Degree at RCTC. Students must have a minimum 3.0 GPA.
Frank Jaszewski Scholarship

(Application available at Fillmore-Central H.S.) Awarded to a Fillmore-Central graduating senior that has been active in athletics or other extra-curricular activities and will be attending RCTC. The applicant is chosen by the school and representatives of the community.
Franklin H. Sim Scholarship

Any student incoming or returning enrolled in the allied health medical field (i.e. sports medicine, physical therapy, athletic training, nursing) who has demonstrated a combination of academic prowess (3.5 GPA) as well as participation in RCTC Athletics or Student Life as a player or as a volunteer.
Hafar Family Music Scholarship

The recipients of the Hafar Family Music Scholarship will be incoming or returning students who will be taking private (applied) music lessons in the fall. Preference will be given to brass students who intend a career in music but any applied (major) student is eligible provided they have a 2.5 GPA. Students may be full or part-time status.
Hoffman Scholarship

Awarded to an incoming student who plans to attend a four-year college or university following graduation from RCTC. Student should be pursuing a major in one of the 'hard sciences', such as math, science, engineering. Student must qualify for financial aid and possess a minimum 3.0 GPA.
Hoffman Technical Scholarship

Awarded to an incoming student who is pursuing a two-year degree majoring in a technical (including medical and dental), or trade field. Student must possess passing grades and qualify for financial assistance.
Holmquist, Nolte, Reed Scholarship

Awarded to an incoming or returning student from Stewartville school area majoring in education with plans to coach athletics.
Iris Fried Student Support Services Scholarship

Awarded to an active participant in the Student Support Services/TRiO Program, who has a current ISP on file, who will enroll in and attend at least 9 credits for the subsequent Fall semester, remain an active member of the SSS Program and has a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5. A mandatory essay (500 word min.) is required. "Explain how Student Support Services has impacted your future life plans."
Jimmy Joe McDermott Scholarship

Awarded to incoming freshmen from southeastern Minnesota who participated in high school activities or athletics and plan to continue in student life activities at RCTC. Students must have a 2.5 GPA or better.
John and Sandra MacLaughlin MN Dream Scholarship

The recipient of this scholarship must be an undocumented citizen is planning to or is currently attending RCTC. The GPA requirement is 2.5. The funds are to pay for tuition, books, and college fees. The recipient does not have to maintain full-time status.
John and Sandra MacLaughlin Practical Nursing Scholarship

The recipient of the John and Sandra Practical Nursing Scholarship will be a student pursing a Practical Nursing diploma The student should possess/maintain a 2.5 GPA. Preference will be given to a single parent with financial need and/or current or former Head Start parents. If the selected recipient does not continue into Semester II another applicant meeting the criteria will be selected. Does not have to maintain full-time status.
John, Adolph, and Pauline Peterson Horticulture Scholarship

Awarded to Incoming or Returning Students with a minimum GPA of 2.0. Preference will be given to students coming from families who have worked in horticulture, agriculture, or related fields who are pursuing an A.A. S. degree planning a career in greenhouse management or a horticulture specialty. Recipient must commit to providing 10 hours of volunteer service each semester to a worthy organization such as Chester Woods Park, Seasons Hospice, the Salvation Army, or American/MN Chapter Red Cross doing fall clean-up spring planting, etc.
Kathleen Stoltenberg Scholarship

Student must have financial need and have graduated from a Rochester or surrounding area school with a GPA above 2.5, and have participated in documented volunteer activities and is currently working at least part-time to fund their education. Funds are to used for tuition, expense, book expenses, or payment of fees. Awarded perferably to a new Incoming or a PSEO student returning for fall session.
Kenneth McGhie Memorial Scholarship

Awarded to an incoming student majoring in Engineering Technology or Engineering.
Kereakos Family Memorial Scholarship

Awarded to an entering freshman who is an immigrant, spouse or child of an immigrant, or a first generation American citizen. Student must exhibit good academic standing. If the student achieves a 2.8 GPA or better, he/she will be eligible to receive the scholarship for a second year.
Lent Family Scholarship

The Lent Family Scholarship must be awarded to an incoming or returning student pursuing an A.S. Nursing Degree or a Law Enforcement Degree and have financial need with a GPA above 2.50. The award will alternate between Nursing and Law Enforcement every other year. Preference will be given to Rochester area residents who are currently working to fund their own education. The award must be used towards college tuition, books, and fees.
Les Fiegel - Rochester Downtown Kiwanis Scholarship

Awarded to an incoming or returning student who exhibits high academic standards (3.0 GPA), volunteer and community involvement, leadership and financial need.
Lois Hackbarth Scholarship

Awarded to a student with financial need, yet not qualified for financial aid. Single parent or person who is a community volunteer or victim advocate. Preference given to students entering community service oriented careers.
Meirick Scholarship

Awarded to an Iowa student who will attend RCTC and who participated in high school wrestling.
Minnesota Society of Professional Engineers Scholarship

Awarded to an incoming student enrolling in Engineering Technology or Pre-Engineering.
Neil Anderson Scholarship

Awarded to any RCTC student who is planning to pursue a four-year degree. The recipient must have a minimum 3.0 GPA from high school or at RCTC and demonstrate financial need and academic merit. Any field of study is eligible. The award is renewable at the discretion of the RCTC Foundation Scholarship Selection Committee. The student must be full-time (in an academic program)with a minimum of 6 credits that will transition to a specific Bachelor's Degree or must meet the average credits taken by students attending RCTC.
Neva and Rachel Kuehn Scholarship

The recipient of the Neva and Rachel Kuehn Scholarship will be a deserving student with financial need enrolled in a RCTC Nursing program preference given to LPN students.
Nick Kehoe Second Chance Memorial Scholarship

(Applications available at Pine Island High School) Awarded to a Pine Island High School graduate who is in the lower 50% percentile of their graduating class and who has earned at least one high school varsity athletic letter. Scholarship renewal possible for second year.
Otto Haling Scholarship

The recipients of this scholarship must be enrolled in the Welding program or Auto Mechanics. Award based on financial need and solid GPA. Preference given to students who have participated in the community or school activities.
Paul and Kim (Hoffmann) Novotny Scholarship

Awarded to an incoming freshman from Chatfield High School with a 3.0 GPA or higher. Applicant must have participated in school activities during high school.
People's Energy Cooperative Scholarship

Awarded to an incoming or returning student who, individually or whose family, is a customer of Peoples Cooperative Services. Preference given to student majoring in agriculture or related field and planning to continue at a four-year college or university.
Peterson/Steffen Scholarship

Awarded to an incoming student majoring in accounting. The recipient will demonstrate academic competence, integrity and participated in extra-curricular activities or community involvement.
Presidential Scholarship

Presidential Scholarships are awarded to Minnesota residents with a cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 3.9 and/or class rank in the top five percent (5%) of their graduating class. Preference is given to students demonstrating leadership and community involvement. The scholarship recipient will be guaranteed two $2500 awards during their first and third terms. To meet second and fourth semester tuition needs funding needs to be earned through the College Work Study program or other Financial Aid arrangements. Students are assigned a faculty mentor to complete their work assignment. Achieving a 3.3 GPA while attending RCTC is required for continued funding. Application Deadline: Presidential scholarships are awarded on a first-come, first serve basis. Please submit your application as soon as you are ready to commit to RCTC.
Puetz Scholarship for Plainview Students Scholarship

(Application available at Plainview-Elgin-Millville H.S) To be awarded to a PEM senior who participated in athletics and will be attending RCTC after graduation. - Selection process is completed by the school.
RCTC Foundation Scholarship

The recipient must have participated in documented (verifiable) measurable community service activities or participated in volunteer activities at their high school or at RCTC, GPA of 2.5 is required.
Regional Endowment Scholarship

Awarded to students whose high school participated in the regional endowment funding process. A list of applicable schools are: Byron Century John Marshall Kasson Mantorville Mayo Pine Island Stewartville Triton Zumbrota-Mazeppa
Renee and Bill Brunner Scholarship

Awarded to a student, incoming or returning, from Southeastern Minnesota who was involved in high school activities such as athletics, student clubs, band, choir, and/or theatre. Recipient must be a full-time student or carry the avg. credits taken by RCTC students from the previous semester. Preference given to students pursuing business or computer related field.
Ronni Eppen Memorial Scholarship

The recipient will be an incoming student to RCTC pursuing a two-year degree in one of the technical trade programs.
Samoen Sam Memorial Scholarship

Awarded to a Rochester Off-Campus student who will attend Rochester Community & Technical College.
Shades of Green Hosta Society of Southeast MN Scholarship

To be awarded to a incoming student committed to the Horticulture program with a 2.75 GPA or higher. The student is required to attend a SOGH meeting.
Steve Bakke Memorial Scholarship

Awarded to an incoming or returning student attending RCTC who is pursuing a career in computer science and/or engineering. The student must be a graduate of a Minnesota high school with a demonstrated mathematical academic background or interest, demonstrated financial need and a 3.0 GPA.
Steve Engelbert Memorial Scholarship

Awarded to a high school graduate with a 2.5 GPA. or better. Student must be from Olmsted, Wabasha, Goodhue, Dodge, Mower, Fillmore or Winona County. Preference given to student with financial need.
Tim Muellner Memorial Scholarship

Awarded to an incoming freshman from Olmsted or Fillmore County or the north central counties of Todd and Stearns. The recipient will have been actively involved in school activities during high school and intends to be involved at RCTC. Preference will be given to students with financial need and can demonstrate participation in the funding their own education - working.
Upward Bound/TRIO Scholarship

Awarded to a senior participant in the Upward Bound/TRIO Program, who has been an active participant, including volunteering and leadership activities, and has a cumulative 2.5 GPA. An essay (350 word minimum) is required: "What did Upward Bound/TRIO mean to me"
Vicki, Kent, Todd Brunner Scholarship

Awarded to a student, incoming or returning, from Southeastern Minnesota who was involved in high school activities such as athletics, band, choir, and theatre. Recipient must carry a minimum 12 credits (or the avg. credits taken at RCTC from the previous semester) and major in business or computer science, allied health, nursing, or pre-medicine.
Walter Swenberg Memorial Scholarship

Eligible student will be enrolled in the Pre-Mechanical Engineering or the Engineering Technical program. Students must qualify for financial aid. If the recipient's complete their first year of study and maintain above average academic standing, they will be eligible for a second year of funding: a new application must be submitted to be reconsidered.
Woodwind Scholarship

The recipient of the Woodwind Scholarship will be an incoming or returning student currently taking private (applied) lessons in music. Preference will be given to a Woodwind student who wants to pursue a lifelong experience in music but any applied (major) student is eligible provided they have a 2.5 GPA . Students may be full or part-time status.
