Best Bee Award

 

Congratulations!

Congratulations to Kathy Richardson who is being awarded the BEST BEE AWARD for March.  Kathy has worked at RCTC since 2003 as an Academic Advisor for the Upward Bound Program.  Here is what Kathy’s nominator has to say. 

Kathy is an exceptional employee who puts in 110% every day at work.  She puts the Upward Bound students first and makes sure they receive all the services necessary to succeed.  She is a person who puts in more than expected, but rarely takes credit for her work.  I strong feel she deserves to be an RCTC Best Bee. 

Kathy displays RCTC’s values as follows: 

Innovation:  Always looking for ways to improve Upward Bound through involving our students in community service projects, partnerships with Mayo Clinic medical students and coming up with new ideas to for our students to learn (offering a mock college experience at one of our Saturday sessions). 

Excellence:  In the past five years 100% of the seniors Kathy advised have graduated college, and over 98% went to college and were the first in their families to go to college. 

Fun:  Kathy creates a fun atmosphere in the office by decorating for every holiday and bringing in baked treats for meetings.  With the students Kathy comes up with fun trivia after each field trip and awards the winners with prizes.  She also makes financial literacy fun for the Upward Bounds students by offering financial BINGO. 

Learner-Centered:  Kathy makes sure all services offered to Upward Bound students are learner centered.  She does this through creative lesson plans and educational enrichment activities.  Kathy does this by making sure all learning styles are included in activities offered by Upward Bound. 

Respect:  Kathy has the greatest respect for everyone she meets.  She is the ultimate example of “Connections Now” and will go out of her way for anyone who needs help.  I have seen Kathy personally walk a stranger at the Heintz Center to a destination they needed to be at and she goes out of her way to find the information needed for a person looking for an answer. 

Teamwork:  Kathy makes sure all employees are included on the Upward Bound decisions and ensures that everyone has expressed their ideas during the decision making process. 

Congratulations Kathy!  As Best Bee for the Month of March, Kathy is being recognized with a personalized certificate and the employee of the month parking space.

 

 

NOMINATE SOMEONE TODAY!

Are your colleagues or co-workers demonstrating extra effort, exemplary service, or demonstrated expertise in your department or on a committee? Are they working on a special project for their job/department/college or in the community? If so, please consider nominating them for "Best Bee of the Month."

RECOGNITIONS:

The Employee Relations Committee (ERC) has implemented a process to recognize and reward employees for outstanding job performances. Recognitions can be awarded:

  1. Work Team Recognition. Recognition would include committee work, community service work, and department achievements and could also highlight something new the group has done or is working on. Work Teams who receive this award will be recognized through publicizing the award in the Crossings, on a "recognition" web site, possibly on our digital wall, their very own "pizza party" and gifts.
  2. Individual Recognition. This is a modified reinstatement of the "Bee Award" started by Bonnie Mercer. Recognition would include committee work, community service work, and individual achievements, extra effort, exemplary service or demonstrated expertise in their field. Individuals who receive this award will be recognized through publicizing the award in the Crossings, on the "recognition" web site, possibly on our digital wall, and gifts.
  3. Write Personal Notes. All employees are encouraged to write notes of recognition and appreciation to their colleagues and co-workers. This is a simple gesture which has a positive effect on the sender and receiver.

GUIDING PRINCIPLES:

  • Anyone can nominate an employee or work team. The nomination remains active indefinitely.
  • The nomination form should include a narrative of why the nominee(s) merit being named Employee/Work Team {Best Bee(s)} of the Month based on criteria the nominator feels is relevant.
  • The nominee(s) may be any employee of Rochester Community and Technical College.
  • Nominations received by the 15th of the month are eligible for consideration of the following month's award.
