Best Bee of the Month - April 2012 - RCTC Nursing Department

» Employee of the Month :: Past Award Recipients :: Nominate Someone Today!

Best Bee Award

Congratulations to the RCTC Nursing Department (Associate Degree and Practical Nursing Programs) for being selected the Best Bee Team for April 2012.  Here is what the team’s nominator had to say:

Nursing faculty, staff and the director of nursing (DON) just completed their national accreditation site visit.  They did a phenomenal job preparing for the visit.  The site visitors were very impressed by the programs (AD-Nursing and Practical Nursing) and plan to recommend the programs for continued accreditation for eight years.

Innovation: Nursing faculty have many innovative practices they incorporate into their programs.  The faculty have integrated simulation into the nursing curriculum, provide trans cultural nursing opportunities to the students, and incorporate concepts of caring, critical thinking, professionalism, collaboration and nursing interventions into their program learning outcomes.

Excellence:  RCTC’s nursing program has consistently placed well above the national average on first time board pass results.  Our clinical and other educational partners value our students and graduates.

Fun:  In spite of working hard to deliver excellent education the nursing department faculty and staff manage to have a lot of fun with social and extracurricular activities.  Some examples are the nursing student forum civic activities, journal clubs that the faculty and DON participate in, annual holiday parties, and nursing pinning ceremony, etc.

Learner-Centered:  Many examples of learner centered-ness of the department come to mind: monthly information sessions, new student orientation, welcome by administrators in the first semester courses, nursing pinning ceremony etc.

Respect:  Nursing programs have embraced the concepts of personal and professional responsibility and caring into their conceptual framework.  Respect for others and patient care is an integral part of nursing education.

Teamwork: One of the nursing concepts emphasized by the program is collaboration and teamwork.  Nursing faculty prepare their graduates to be productive members of the healthcare team.

The following faculty and staff are being recognized:  Marilyn Baker, Kerri Bjorkley-Campbell, Suzanne Bundrick, Rose Buns, Jennifer Eickhoff, Patricia Engstrom, Barb Ewen, Heidi Feldman, Merry Beth Gay, Janalee Gilsrud, Joel Hammill, Cloey Haug, Becky Henderson, Sheila Hoehn, Nancy Hust, Sue Jansen, Jessica Jasperson, Betsy Kennedy, Diane Nicholls, Rose Pappas, Brian Quinn, Jessica Ramirez, Amy Sands, Lisa Scheiber-Case, Mary Shelerud, Michelle Willihnganz, Liz Wirt, Jenny White, Diane Witzig, Michelle Yankowiak, and Deb Zaffke.

Congratulations Team!  As Best Bee Team for the Month of April, the team is being recognized with a certificate and a pizza gala!

Are your colleagues or co-workers demonstrating extra effort, exemplary service, or demonstrated expertise in your department or on a committee? Are they working on a special project for their job/department/college or in the community? If so, please consider nominating them for "Best Bee of the Month."

The Employee Relations Committee (ERC) has implemented a process to recognize and reward employees for outstanding job performances. Recognitions can be awarded:

  1. Work Team Recognition. Recognition would include committee work, community service work, and department achievements and could also highlight something new the group has done or is working on. Work Teams who receive this award will be recognized through publicizing the award in the Crossings, on a "recognition" web site, possibly on our digital wall, their very own "pizza party" and gifts.
  2. Individual Recognition. This is a modified reinstatement of the "Bee Award" started by Bonnie Mercer. Recognition would include committee work, community service work, and individual achievements, extra effort, exemplary service or demonstrated expertise in their field. Individuals who receive this award will be recognized through publicizing the award in the Crossings, on the "recognition" web site, possibly on our digital wall, and gifts.
  3. Write Personal Notes. All employees are encouraged to write notes of recognition and appreciation to their colleagues and co-workers. This is a simple gesture which has a positive effect on the sender and receiver.
