Best Bee Award

Congratulations!

Congratulations to Amanda Proper for being nominated and selected as RCTC’s April Best Bee. Amanda joined RCTC in May of 2005.  Her current position is Senior Customer Service Specialist serving students in the Admissions and Records Department.  Here is what her nominator had to say about her:

Amanda Proper, Admissions and Records Department, is an exceptional employee. In addition to being an expert in her job, she is also the go to person for all Advising Department questions and difficult student challenges. She is an expert on RCTC procedures and helps other employees navigate those complex processes. Amanda is a great example of college spirit and she demonstrates her dedication to RCTC and our students.

Innovation: Amanda can take a complex process and quickly identify ways to simplify it and make it easier for everyone involved.

Excellence: Amanda has a friendly and outgoing personality, no matter the challenges she faces. She is always willing to help students, staff and faculty, no matter how busy she is or how many projects she has going. She is an outstanding example of our college's dedication to customer service.

Fun: Amanda is always ready to laugh! Even in the worst situations, she can find a way to make other staff smile and laugh.

Learner-Centered: Many times, Amanda has helped students navigate difficult processes and she explains these processes in a way easy for them to understand. Accurate registration of classes and record management is vital to student success and ability to graduate from RCTC. Amanda facilitates this for students and leaves them with a better understanding of their journey.

Respect: Amanda demonstrates with each interaction that respect for all people is her ethical "north star." She is always kind, patient, considerate with even the most simplistic questions from students (and staff). Even when faced with angry and frustrated students, she keeps calm and shows the student that she cares. They leave her desk happier and ready to get back to work at the business of their education.

Teamwork: Amanda is always willing to jump in on a task. She has truly grown into her role. In spite of her natural introverted personality, she takes initiative and a collaborative role in the most complex, daunting tasks. Amanda is willing to step outside of her job description and comfort zone to help solve complex student challenges alongside other key staff and faculty players.

Congratulations Amanda!  As Best Bee for the Month of April, Amanda is being recognized with a certificate and the employee of the month parking space.

NOMINATE SOMEONE TODAY!

Are your colleagues or co-workers demonstrating extra effort, exemplary service, or demonstrated expertise in your department or on a committee? Are they working on a special project for their job/department/college or in the community? If so, please consider nominating them for "Best Bee of the Month."

RECOGNITIONS:

The Employee Relations Committee (ERC) has implemented a process to recognize and reward employees for outstanding job performances. Recognitions can be awarded:

  1. Work Team Recognition. Recognition would include committee work, community service work, and department achievements and could also highlight something new the group has done or is working on. Work Teams who receive this award will be recognized through publicizing the award in the Crossings, on a "recognition" web site, possibly on our digital wall, their very own "pizza party" and gifts.
  2. Individual Recognition. This is a modified reinstatement of the "Bee Award" started by Bonnie Mercer. Recognition would include committee work, community service work, and individual achievements, extra effort, exemplary service or demonstrated expertise in their field. Individuals who receive this award will be recognized through publicizing the award in the Crossings, on the "recognition" web site, possibly on our digital wall, and gifts.
  3. Write Personal Notes. All employees are encouraged to write notes of recognition and appreciation to their colleagues and co-workers. This is a simple gesture which has a positive effect on the sender and receiver.

GUIDING PRINCIPLES:

  • Anyone can nominate an employee or work team. The nomination remains active indefinitely.
  • The nomination form should include a narrative of why the nominee(s) merit being named Employee/Work Team {Best Bee(s)} of the Month based on criteria the nominator feels is relevant.
