Instructor of Chemistry

Full-Time Temporary Position (One-Year Replacement)

Start date will be Fall Semester 2010

 

RESPONSIBILITIES

The Science Division seeks an energetic and enthusiastic colleague to teach a variety of undergraduate courses in Chemistry.  The ideal candidate will bring competencies to teach lecture and laboratory in General Chemistry for Majors, Allied Health Chemistry, Biochemistry, and Preparatory Chemistry.  The position includes very minimal set up and maintenance of labs and laboratory equipment.

 

 

QUALIFICATIONS

Required Qualification(s): 

Master’s degree with a major in Chemistry or with 24 graduate quarter/16 semester credits in Chemistry which would apply to the major.

 

Preferred Qualification(s):

ü  Teaching experience at the two-year college level. 

ü  Demonstrated excellence in teaching.

ü  Experience in teaching chemistry.

ü  Background in diversity issues as related to teaching in the prescribed area(s). 

 

Desirable Qualifications: 

Ability to provide faculty leadership in athletics and/or student life activities.

 

 

 

EXPECTATIONS OF FACULTY

A faculty member’s work assignment includes a number of diverse professional responsibilities.  Classroom teaching and other contacts with students form the core of the faculty work assignment.  Additionally, professional development and service to the college are the other core components of a faculty member’s work assignment.  A faculty member will plan to engage in such activities as:  course evaluation, classroom preparation, the evaluation of student performance, committee assignments, classroom research and community service as part of overall work assignment.

 

 

SALARY

Salary is dependent on education and experience, in accordance with the Minnesota State College Faculty [MSCF] bargaining agreement (available on the Minnesota State College and University [MnSCU] website at http://www.hr.mnscu.edu/contract_plans/index.html).   The position also includes excellent fringe benefits.
