Competency to teach lower-division college courses in ICD-9-CM Coding, ICD-10-CM Coding, CPT Coding, Advanced Coding & Reimbursement, Introduction to Health Records, Computerized Health Information, Alternative Health Record Systems, Pathophysiology and Pharmacology, Legal Aspects of Health Information, Quality Analysis and Health Statistics, Supervision of Health Information, Health Information Technology Review, Health Information Technology Internship I & II, and Coding Internship.
Required Qualification(s):
ü 8000 hours of experience as a medical records administrator and/or a medical records technician in any acute care setting (2000 hours within past five years). Education may be substituted for Occupational Experience. ü Bachelor or above degree in Health Information Management with the RHIT or RHIA credential
Preferred Qualification(s):
ü Teaching experience at the two-year college level.
ü Experience in teaching Health Information Management Technology courses as noted under responsibilities.
ü CCS/CCS-P credential or a minimum of five years coding experience
ü Experience and/or interest in teaching interactive and/or online courses.
ü Ability to assist department in curriculum decisions and student assessment.
ü Ability to assist department with accreditation requirements and reporting.
ü Ability and/or interest in assisting with program leadership responsibilities.
ü Record of active involvement on college committees and with other initiatives.
ü Record of active engagement in professional development activities.
ü Background in diversity issues as related to teaching in the prescribed area(s).
A faculty member’s work assignment includes a number of diverse professional responsibilities. Classroom teaching and other contacts with students form the core of the faculty work assignment. Additionally, professional development and service to the college are the other core components of a faculty member’s work assignment. A faculty member will plan to engage in such activities as: student advising, course evaluation, classroom preparation, the evaluation of student performance, committee assignments, classroom research and community service as part of overall work assignment.
Salary is dependent on education and experience, in accordance with the Minnesota State College Faculty [MSCF] bargaining agreement (available on the Minnesota State College and University [MnSCU] website at http://www.hr.mnscu.edu/contract_plans/index.html). The position also includes excellent fringe benefits.
