Program Outcomes

Upon completion of the Art program at RCTC, students will achieve the following outcomes:

Associates of Fine Arts

  • Create two dimensional and three dimensional works of art in a variety of media at an emergent skill level.
  • Demonstrate fundamental technical skills in the creation of artwork.
  • Evaluate the aesthetic quality, cultural significance, personal reaction, and historical context of artwork.
  • Identify significant works of western and non western art from prehistoric times through the present time.
  • Explain the ways that cultural, economic, and historical events impact the development of significant historical art works.
  • Utilize the Elements of Art and Principles of Design.

Associates of Fine Arts Studio Art

  • Demonstrate an increased understanding of the vital role of the fine arts in an historic and social context.
  • Articulate an informed personal reaction to artwork through critique.
  • Demonstrate a knowledge of the elements of art and the principles of design in works of art.
  • Identify and effectively use art-making materials with media specific techniques and safety considerations related to those media.
  • Demonstrate basic proficiency with digital imaging software.
  • Create original works of art demonstrate a visual vocabulary, that explore conceptual frameworks, and exhibit an ability to make effective aesthetic judgments.
  • Analyze formal concerns and composition strategies in two and three-dimensional design.

Graphic Design

  • Utilize the Elements of Art, Principles of Design, or Typography in order to create effective and aesthetically appropriate compositions.
  • Demonstrate fundamental technical skills in the creation and presentation of design.
  • Evaluate the aesthetic quality, cultural significance, personal reaction, and historical context of works of art and design.
  • Develop unique and innovative solutions using conceptual thinking.
  • Identify significant works of art and design throughout history.
  • Explore a variety of media used in art and design.

Photography

  • Create photographic images using digital SLR cameras and a variety of other film and digital camera formats using manual controls.
  • Demonstrate fundamental technical skills using photographic principals including camera functions, image processing, printing images, darkroom processing and printing, darkroom safety, studio and natural lighting, and proper exposure using a light meter.
  • Identify important contemporary and historical photographic works.
  • Evaluate the aesthetic quality, cultural significance, personal reaction to and historical context of photographs.
  • Create images informed or influenced by contemporary or historical photographic concerns.
  • Create an extended body of photographic work related to a single theme or idea of personal significance.

Web Design

  • Utilize the Elements of Art, Principles of Design, or Principles of Usability in order to create functional and aesthetically appropriate compositions.
  • Demonstrate fundamental technical skills in the creation and presentation of design.
  • Evaluate the aesthetic quality, cultural significance, personal reaction, and historical context of digital art and graphic design.
  • Evaluate the needs of the users to determine the correct contexts for solutions.
  • Develop unique and innovative solutions using conceptual thinking.
