Carpentry Program
Program Goals

The Carpentry program provides training for entry into
construction related careers:
- Commercial and Residential construction
- Retail sales – lumber, building supplies, etc.
- Cabinet shops
- Hardwood floors and Tile
- Roofing
- Siding and Windows
- Interior trim and Millwork
- Building Maintenance
- Manufacturing
- Drafting and Design
- Real Estate
- Self Employment

Students Learn the following:
- Students build a new home, beginning with site lay-out and
preparation, forming and placing concrete, framing, roof systems, stair and
rafter lay-out, insulation, dry-wall, interior and exterior finish.
- Construction estimating, blue print reading and related
trade math will be thoroughly covered in class and in the field.
- Students will become skilled with many hand and power
tools as well as understand all safety issues.
- This program creates actual real life work situations,
emphasizing work ethics, safety, and professionalism.
- Building codes are discussed as they relate to our
projects.

Course Goals:
- To gain knowledge concerning the standard practices of new
home construction.
- Know and understand the terminology used in building
construction.
- Learn safe operation and usage of common construction
equipment including power tools, ladders, and scaffold systems.
- Gain the confidence to seek employment in the construction
field where you can begin to hone your skills.
