Program Description
The RCTC Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) class is designed to satisfy all requirements of the Minnesota EMS Regulatory Board (EMSRB) and the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians. Graduates are prepared for careers as EMT’s with basic life support ambulance services and hospitals. Graduates are eligible to take the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technician written and practical exam.
When is the Course Offered
The RCTC EMT class is a semester long course. We have EMT classes in the fall, spring and summer semesters. Information on the dates of the semester can be found on the RCTC website.
How Much Does EMT Class CostThe RCTC EMT class is a 6 credit semester based class. Tuition is based on 6 college credits. Additional fees supplies and a background check are assessed as well. Information about the current price of tuition can be found on the RCTC website.
Characteristics of the EMTEMTs work as part of a team. Thorough knowledge of theoretical procedures and ability to integrate knowledge and performance into practical situations are critical. Self-confidence, emotional stability, good judgment, tolerance for high stress, and a pleasant personality are also essential characteristics of the successful EMT at any level. EMT also must be able to deal with adverse social situations, which include responding to calls in districts known to have high crime rates.
Physical Demands of the EMS ProfessionAptitudes required for work of this nature are good physical stamina, endurance, and body condition that would not be adversely affected by frequently having to walk, stand, lift, carry, and balance at times, in excess of 125 pounds. Motor coordination is necessary because over uneven terrain, the patient's, the Paramedic's, and other workers' well being must not be jeopardized.
