Mass Communications Program
Mass Communications Program Highlights
Numerous Careers
- Students trained in Mass Communications have a wide variety of careers and opportunities awaiting them. Career areas in Mass Communication include: Advertising, Broadcasting (Radio and TV), Film, Newspapers, Magazines, Books, the Recording Industry, the Internet, Public Relations and Journalism.
Experience is Key
- Experience is the key factor to success in the Mass Communications fields. Application for almost any job will require examples of previous work along with information about education. Job applicants with experience will probably be hired over those with a college degree and no experience. With RCTC you get the best of both worlds: textbook knowledge with hardware/software training combined with hands-on projects and experience.
Opportunities Abound
- Opportunities for experience are available both in and out of class. Besides projects included with classes, students may obtain internships with media, enter projects in local or national film festivals or contests, collaborate with other members of the Mass Communications Club on campus to complete independent projects, or simply submit their work to media or professional organizations for consideration.
Career Outlook
- With new technology (like the Internet and Wireless Cell Phones), the number of ways we communicate through mass communications has increased. This will increase demand for people who can create content artistically and technically for media.
- The U.S. Department of Labor's Bureau of Labor Statistics projects that the number of jobs in several industries of mass communications (Publishing, Broadcasting and Telecommunications, and Motion Picture and Sound Recording) are projected to rise by 2012.
