The Music Department at RCTC has excellent, modern facilities for performance, study, composition, and practice. The department provides multiple Wenger practice cubes that are available for individual practice and are equipped with pianos. Lockers are also provided for students’ instruments. Please see Mr. Chuck Blattner to reserve a locker.
The primary classrooms of the department are Endicott Hall-210 (EH-210) College Center-113 (CC-113), and College Center-206 (CC-206).
EH-210 is equipped with 26 Mac stations, and is used for musicianship, fundamentals, electronic music composition, and audio production classes. Each computer has a connected synthesizer keyboard. A number of “state of the art” software programs are installed on each computer and include Finale desktop publishing, Digital Performer audio and MIDI sequencer and editor, Practica Musica music theory practice program, Garage Band music looping and sequencing editor, iMovie, iTunes, and iDVD video, and audio programs, Toast Titanium CD and DVD burning programs, Microsoft Office suite, and various graphics editing programs such as Photoshop and Illustrator. When the classroom is not occupied with classes, it remains open for individual student work and study from 8:00AM to 10:00 PM every weekday.
CC-113 is used for both rehearsal space and for various classes. The acoustically treated space is equipped with a grand piano, percussion equipment, a large video projection system and a surround-sound audio system.
CC-206 has 20 electronic pianos and a new Hamilton grand piano. Class piano, voice and piano lessons are held here. Each keyboard is connected to a communication system to the teacher’s station used during class piano. The room is also equipped with a fine audio system and a computer used for the Smart Music program which can be used to accompany students practicing their voice or instrument repertoire.
Studio A is a state-of-the-art music production studio taking various music technology courses. The studio houses a computer-based multi-track recording system and MIDI sequencing. The studio is connected to five sound-cubes, and drum recording room, and to CC-113 for the recording of various instruments. The studio is a 5.1 Dolby surround-sound suite incorporating contemporary technology for the creation of original music compositions which are mastered on both CD’s and DVD’s.
Studio B is an audio recording and MIDI sequencing studio used by students taking the first semester of Electronic Music Composition. The studio is used for individual studio compositions and is equipped with a large selection of various contemporary creation hardware and software.
Studio C is an audio recording studio used by students taking the first semester of Audio Production. The studio is used for individual studio recording projects and is equipped with a basic selection of contemporary creation hardware and software.
Studio GL-127 is an audio recording and MIDI sequencing studio used by students taking both the Audio Production and Electronic Music Composition courses. The studio is used for individual studio recording and composition projects and is equipped with the same hardware and software of both Studio A and Studio B.
Studio ST-105 is an audio recording studio used by students taking both the Audio Production and Electronic Music Composition courses. The studio is used for individual studio recording and composition projects and is equipped with an expanded group of hardware used in the creation of Dolby 5.1 surround-sound projects. The control room is connected to a large multi-camera video production space with 24-channels of audio input for recording larger ensembles with video recording and production.
Hill Theatre is the primary performance space and seats 350. The space features a newly-rebuilt 9-foot Steinway grand piano. Band, choir, and electronic music performances are held here, as well as theatre productions and concerts by visiting performers.
