This course is for currently Licensed (registered) Practical Nurses who have graduated from a state-approved school of practical nursing and meet criteria listed on the application. For LPNs not meeting these criteria, credit by exam is available for selected nursing courses with approval from the Director of Nursing. LPNs accepted into the program would receive 12 credits for the Semesters I and II courses NURS 1117 and NURS 1118 and would take NURS 1120 in addition to required general education courses that haven’t been completed. After successful completion of NURS 1120 and general education course requirements for Semesters I and II as outlined Academic Program Course Requirements, the student progresses to Semester III courses.
NURS 1120 provides an overview of the RCTC AD Nursing Program. The emphasis
of lecture and discussion is on the RN role of assessment and planning nursing
care for patients with multisystem needs and disorders. The assignments
allow the student to apply the nursing process to selected patients in the
acute care setting. The course builds on the LPN’s knowledge and experience
and allows the student to explore the role of the RN.
