Hear from the Best

Who are the best? We are the alumni of RCTC. We are individuals like you – with drive, ambition and most importantly – a vision. We are over 20,000 strong and are the legacy of a great college. Some of us are the new generation of leadership in your community, company and organizations. All of us were successful by being a part of a supportive learning environment at RCTC.

Where are we from? We live and work throughout the United States from the inner cities of Washington D.C. and Chicago to small town America and leading business centers. Many of us still call the greater Rochester area home helping to make it a vibrant region to live and work. We are from over 70 different countries from around the world. We have diverse backgrounds, interests, even languages. One thing we do have in common is a dream of success.

Where are we now? We are graduates of a college with a strong tradition of academic excellence. We are community leaders, business owners, elected officials, teachers, doctors, carpenters, lawyers and authors.

We partner with the best. RCTC partners with the renowned Mayo Clinic and IBM to provide world class educational opportunities to our students. We provide diverse learning opportunities on-campus, off-campus and on-line. We partner with the University of Minnesota and Winona State University to provide career pathways from start to finish from certificate through doctorate level programs at the University Center Rochester campus.

Support the best. We are here to support students who give their best and strive to be their best. We are contributors to the RCTC Foundation that awards thousands of dollars in scholarships to RCTC students every year. We are leaders, volunteers and citizens engaged in the communities we are part of.

Why we are the best. In August of 1915, Dr. Charles Mayo introduced a motion to the Rochester School Board to create a junior college. On September 14, 1915, the first students attended what we now know today as Rochester Community and Technical College. Throughout our history we have been recognized as a respected, innovative and quality institution. Our tradition and legacy includes many milestones such as:

A charter member of the American Association of Community Colleges in 1920.

Offered our first 60 credit Associate of Arts program in 1923.

A founding member of Phi Theta Kappa (PTK) in 1926.

Established the first medical secretary program in the nation in 1927.

In 1957 Roger Garmers was the College’s first All-American athlete.

Established the first community college foundation in Minnesota in 1961.

A partner in the University Center Rochester, established in 1993, which is a unique campus with educational opportunities spanning certificates to doctorate degrees.

National Division III football champions in 2000.

Could RCTC feature you someday?

Go ahead, picture it.
