Music - Concert Band, Concert Choir, Ensembles

RCTC Music includes Band, Choir, Jazz Band, and Aires. The band, choir, jazz band, and Aires perform several concerts on and off campus each year. Director: Chuck Blattner, Chuck.Blattner@rctc.edu, 285-7576.

"Love and Love Lost"—featuring the music of Robert Schumann

Rochester Camerata and soprano Carla Hanson in collaboration with RCTC piano instructor and virtuoso, Ainhoa Urkijo-Ortiz present an evening of classical music by the great composer, Robert Schumann.

Additional accompaniment provided by Brian Koh, Violin and John Osborn, Cello.

A Concert of Music Composed by RCTC Music instructor David Kassler.

Ilstrup Auditorium at John Marshall High School. 

Tickets prices are $12.00 for adults and $7.00 for students.  Ticket available at the door.

The concert has been funded in part by a generous grant from the McKnight Foundation.

The program will begin with the Sonata for Euphonium and Piano.  This will be followed by Heartland Songs, a chamber work for voice, euphonium, piano, strings and percussion that will feature Kathleen Rogers, soprano.  The final work on the concert will be a song cycle on Walt Whitman’s Pioneers, O Pioneers.  Joining David Kassler in the performance of this work will be RCTC piano instructor and virtuoso, Ainhoa Urkijo-Ortiz, Michael Geary who is principal timpanist of the Des Moines Symphony and his student, Leif Larson.   Dr. Douglas Thompson, the tenor soloist for this work, is currently the Director of Music at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Circle Pines, MN.   Chris Jarvis, Director of Bands at John Marshall High School will conduct the work.  Art work from the Rochester Art Center will also be featured.

David Kassler has appeared on numerous university campuses in the United States performing traditional and new works for euphonium.  His music compositions have been performed internationally on university campuses and at the Midwest conference of the International Tuba and Euphonium Association.  David Kassler is currently an adjunct professor of music at Rochester Community and Technical College and Director of Music at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Rochester, MN.
