Wireless Internet Access

Wireless Internet Access

The Rochester Community and Technical College has wireless Internet access available for all students, staff and faculty. This access is available in most areas of the campus through the use of 802.11 a,b,g and n access points.

To access the wireless network you will need:

  1. A computer with a 802.11 a,b,g or n wireless card
  2. The SSID of the network RCTC HIVE (key access: expecttheunexpected)
  • When you are in range of a wireless access point for the RCTC network your computer will see an available Wireless Network Connection for RCTC HIVE. Allow the computer to connect to the wireless network it will then prompt you for a key, type in expecttheunexpected and your computer will now have Internet access. You should only have to enter the key in once, the next time you connect it should connect automatically.

*Note: Do not change the default settings for this connection as changing these values may disrupt your connection.

If you are having problems connecting to the wireless network make sure you are in range of a wireless access point. If you are within range but you are not able to connect usually restarting the computer will resolve the problem. If that does not resolve the problem make sure that you have not accidentally disabled your wireless card or turned your antenna off. If you continue to have issues connecting to the wireless network go to the Technology Support Center (TSC) located in GL108 for further information. Just remember that the TSC does not support personal laptops.

If you do not have a wireless card, but need access to the Internet with your laptop, Ethernet jacks are available in some locations around campus (such as Goddard Library, Cafeteria) which can get you access to the Internet.
