How do students apply?

Applications are taken every spring from eighth grade students and a limited number of current high school students. The application deadline has been extended to March 6, 2006. Those who were selected begin the program in June, 2006.

If a student is eligible to apply, he/she needs to complete an application and submit the following documents:

  1. The most recent middle school transcript.
  2. Three recommendation letters (Two letters must come from school teachers and/or counselors; one can be from a teacher, counselor, employer, and/or community member.). None of the recommendations may be from family members.
  3. Parent/Guardian(s)' most recent federal tax from, and/or verification of public assistance from a governmental source.

Applications are reviewed by the Upward Bound staff after students turn in their applcations and submit all of the above documents to their counselor or the Upward Bound office, and finalists are selected. Each finalist, along with a parent or guardian, is invited to participate in a personal interview. Selections are made after the interviews are completed.

Interested students are encouraged to talk to a school guidance counselor or an Upward Bound staff member at (507) 280-5002 to get more information and an application packet.
