College Withdrawal

A college withdrawal may be appropriate for you if the deadline for dropping your course(s) has expired and you are unable to complete ALL of the courses you are currently registered for. Withdrawing from the college means that you are assigning yourself a grade of ‘W’ for each course you are currently registered for.  Course withdrawals impact your academic standing. Students accumulating more than 8 ‘W’ or ‘NC’ grades are subject to suspension from the college.

RCTC strongly recommends that you work with your advisor or counselor prior to withdrawing from college to achieve the best possible outcomes for your individual circumstances. Also you must notify the following offices if you are receiving benefits from them:

• Financial Aid Office
• Veterans Administration School Official
• SSSP (Student Support Services Program)
• International Student Advisor

College Withdrawal Period

Whether withdrawing from all courses at once or one at a time, the course withdrawal deadlines must be met. Courses that meet for the entire semester have a common deadline for withdrawal. Shorter courses (those that meet for a portion of the semester) have unique withdrawal deadlines. Click here to check individual course withdrawal deadlines.

Because of the difficult circumstances that lead a student to withdraw from college, the policy allows for a partial refund if done within specific deadlines as defined below:

Spring Semester 2008
75% refund	Total college withdrawal processed through January 28
50% refund	Total college withdrawal processed through February 4
25% refund	Total college withdrawal processed through February 12
No refund	Total college withdrawal processed after February 12
Summer Session 2008
50% refund	Total college withdrawal processed through June 20 for classes that begin the week of June 4
50% refund	Total college withdrawal processed through July 25 for classes that begin the week of July 9
No refund	Any other withdrawals
Fall Semester 2008
75% refund	Total college withdrawal processed through September 8
50% refund	Total college withdrawal processed through September 15
25% refund	Total college withdrawal processed through September 22
No refund	Total college withdrawal processed after September 22

How to Withdraw

You may withdraw at the registration counter during regular business hours or via your online account. To do so online, follow these instructions:

• login to your online account
• select the proper semester
• select the ‘registration’ tab
• select ‘edit/view class schedule’ from the menu
• select the course you wish to withdraw from
• Select ‘drop’ from the menu and click the ‘process’ button
• Enter your PIN or password
• You should receive a message; verify that the transaction was processed successfully or respond appropriately.
• Repeat steps 4 through 7 for each course.

RCTC will not withdraw you from courses through e-mail or telephone requests; you must utilize the registration counter or your online account for all transactions.
