Individuals with brain injury and/or cognitive impairment due to other causes generally function best with routine and structure and from specific approaches including structured verbal cueing and compensating for cognitive difficulties.  Learning how to best interact with a person with brain injury  or other cognitive impairment can be challenging, but several simple strategies can be employed by health care providers at all levels to promote independence as well as enhance both client and provider satisfaction.

This interactive presentation will identify, describe and demonstrate techniques useful in caring for this client population including cueing, breaking tasks down, identifying therapeutic ways to spend free time, and implementing memory notebooks and other cognitive compensation tools.  Fatigue management will also be reviewed.  Attendees are encouraged to bring case studies to discuss
