2014 Year in Review
A new President was appointed Leslie McClellan was appointed president in July after a national search.
Health-related programs increase offerings An increase in the demand for healthcare-related job positions has pushed the Practical Nursing and Health Unit Coordinator programs to increase the amount of classes they are offering.
The Workforce Center opened in September After 11 years of planning and building, the new co-located Rochester Workforce Center opened at Heintz Center.
Student Achievements Many student accomplishments happened this year, and here are a couple. Ryan Brick, a Horticulture student, won one of 40 national scholarships awarded by Davey Tree Company. Alison Seemann, Chemistry, was one of 35 winners in the Speak Simply Contest at the American Chemical Society national meeting, explaining her research in easy-to-understand terms.
The Softball Yellowjackets placed fourth in the nation The team finished 2-2 in the NJCAA Division III National Tournament after a great season.
The Yellowjacket Wrestling team non-scholarship champions ? The wrestling team placed eleventh in the NJCAA National Tournament overall and were the non-scholarship champions. Joe Munos and Garrett Miller went to the semifinals, where Munos placed fourth at the 141-pound weight class and Miller took third at the 174-pound weight class. After this season, Miller was a two-time All-American.
The Football Yellowjackets won a Bowl bid – After a rocky start, the football team ended the season on a high note, defeating rivals Central Lakes to secure the MCAC State Tournament once again. The Yellowjackets traveled to Iowa in December to play in the Graphic Edge Bowl.
The Student Food Cupboard expands Student Life had a grand opening for the Student Food Cupboard, which expanded the Student Food Shelf run by the RCTC Lions Club. The Food Cupboard is open Tuesdays and Wednesdays 11 a.m.-4 p.m. in CC406.
Outstanding Educators The 2014 Outstanding Educators were Michelle Cochran and David Atwood.
