Rooney & Esters named All-Americans
Rochester Community and Technical College Yellowjacket Football quarterback, Nick Rooney, has been named first-team All-American by the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA).
Rooney, a sophomore from Minnetonka, set three national records this year while playing at RCTC. In the 2015 season, Rooney completed a record-setting 57 touchdown passes. Rooney also established a new national record with 105 career touchdown passes while at RCTC. Setting a third national record, Rooney completed 314 of 463 passes (67.8 percent) this season for a total of 4,341 yards.
In addition to the three national records established, he also surpassed all of RCTC’s top passing records. Rooney’s total for career passing yardage at RCTC was 7,884 yards. Rooney was named offensive MVP of the NJCAA championship Mississippi Bowl game.
Jalen Esters, a sophomore from Port Huron, MI, was named All-American honorable mention. In 2015, Esters had 79 receptions, receiving yardage of 1,245 and 20 touchdown receptions at RCTC. Ester’s 79 receptions set a single season record at RCTC.
