Alumni Cesar Forero reception scheduled
The Rochester Community and Technical College Art + Design Department is excited to announce an upcoming exhibition featuring art from RCTC Alumnus Cesar Forero. The exhibit and artist reception, with works from Forero’s project The Message, will be held Thursday, Jan. 28, 4:30-6:00 p.m. in the RCTC Art Gallery (College Center 200).
The Colombian-born Canadian artist holds a MA from Minnesota State University Mankato and a MFA from the University of Waterloo, Ontario. Forero has also taught architecture, design and art at university level in Colombia, United States, and Canada. Forero graduated from RCTC in 2000 with an associate’s degree in liberal arts and sciences.
The Message? is comprised of two components. The first component is the creation of thirteen paintings, oil and mixed media, measuring four by four feet (4?x4?), which will be on display. The creation of these paintings resulted from the study of various important geometric compositions of universal culture such as the composition in which the pyramids of Giza sit. Then on this geometric composition appear images of animals, plants, and people coexisting and sharing the picture space with the same value and importance. The Geometry not only dictates the composition but also transforms the volumes, altering their three-dimensional illusion into shapes. This effect brings the geometry back to the surface.
The second component is the creation of a site-specific piece created on the gallery floor, during a ten-minute performance of contemporary dance at the reception. The gallery floor will be covered with backdrop photography paper. Two dancers, a man and a woman, begin the dance with the specific plan to build a geometric composition. A musical piece, in four sections, was created for the project by Steven Whaley.
The event is free and open to the public. Additional information on Cesar Forero is available online at cesarforero.com.
