Commissioner Pogemiller to Meet with RCTC Students

Higher Education Commissioner Larry Pogemiller will be in Rochester on Wednesday, April 19, to meet with Rochester Community and Technical College (RCTC) Interim President Mary Davenport and RCTC students to discuss Governor Dayton’s budget proposal for higher education.

Governor Dayton’s Opportunity Agenda would invest $318 million to directly reduce higher education costs for Minnesota students and families and improve opportunities on campus.

Central to the Governor’s proposed 2017 Higher Education bill is a significant investment in the Minnesota State Grant program. Currently, over half of all Minnesota students attending RCTC receive a State Grant to help them cover their educational expenses and living costs, as well as decrease their need to borrow. If the Governor’s proposal is enacted, nearly 300 additional students will receive a grant.

In addition, Governor Dayton recommends over $21 million in his bonding bill to replace severely outdated classroom and office space by renovation and expanding existing academic buildings. Funding is also included in the Governor’s bonding proposal to replace an air handler at the Heintz Center at RCTC.
