Fall Volunteer Fair

The RCTC Accounting and Business League is sponsoring a Volunteer Fair on Wednesday, Nov. 4, in the RCTC Atrium 11 a.m.-3 p.m.

If you’d like to make a difference in the community, this a perfect opportunity for students to connect with non-profit organizations in the community. There will be several volunteer opportunities available.

Event organizer Sarah Flatness had attended events like this before and wanted to bring the idea to the RCTC campus.

“This is a wonderful opportunity for students because they will be exposed to various parts of the community, along with different beliefs and values,” she said.

Organizations planning on being in attendance are: National Alliance for Mental Illness (NAMI), American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP), Bolder Options, Channel One Food Bank, Salvation Army, Gift of Life Transplant House, United Way of Olmsted County, Family Service, American Cancer Society, Recovery Is Happening, Rochester Civic Theater, and potentially Family Promise.

Volunteering not only connects you to others but it is also good for your mind and body. Volunteering increases self confidence, provides a sense of purpose and in certain forms, can help you stay physically healthy. Research has show that volunteering has many benefits. This a great way to make new friends and community contacts and is also a perfect way to develop and practice social skills. It increases self-confidence, provides a sense of purpose, and may combat depression.

Make sure to stop by the Atrium next Wednesday to make a connection!
