Get out for the Glow in the Night 5k

My sisters and me after the color run held on the RCTC campus last July. (I’m on the right.)

I started running almost three years ago. I was slow, stuff hurt, and it took me two months to finally run a mile nonstop.

I ran my first timed 5k race six months after I started and have tried to get at least two 5k runs in per summer since then.

I’m still slower than a herd of turtles in molasses, but I love running in official 5k races in the community. There’s just something about being with a bunch of like-minded people who are out to support a cause.

There is such an adrenaline rush by being a part of a race. Running with others pushes me to do a little better on my speed, and there’s nothing like crossing the finish line with all those people cheering you on.

The RCTC Foundation and Yellowjacket Football Team are sponsoring a Glow in the Night 5k fun run/walk on Friday, Sept. 26. While not a timed race, this is a great opportunity to get out with your friends and have some fun running (or walking).

For those of you who?ve done color runs, this is similar, with glow zones and blacklights. Glow-ologists will throw glow powder at you as you’re running or walking past, and you?ll light up the night.

Afterward, there is a glowing afterparty with dancing, more glowdust, and blacklights.

The run starts at 7:30 p.m. at Silver Lake, so by the time you’re in your running groove, it?ll be dark enough to light up the night.

Registration is $45 per person and $35 if you can get a team of four or more together. Volunteers are always welcome as well! You can sign up to volunteer at the same website you register.

Whether you’re a runner or a walker, get your team of at least four together and come out to support RCTC, the Yellowjackets, and the community! I?ll be participating as a volunteer this time, not a runner, but I am really looking forward to this run.
