Last Week in Athletics – 9-14-15
The Yellowjacket Football and Volleyball teams hosted Family Appreciation Day on Saturday, and brought home a couple wins to boot. Soccer played last Wednesday and also brought home a win in overtime.Via @JUCOFrenzy
The football team met rival Central Lakes on Saturday and eked out a win after a back and forth game, 43-40. At the half, Central lakes led by four points, but after 13 points in third and another 14 in the fourth quarters, RCTC secured a win.
Nick Rooney threw for 528 yards and five touchdowns.
Jalen Esters had eight catches for 175 yards and a touchdown.
Terrance Bowers had four catches for 186 yards and two touchdowns.
The offense put up 681 yards total.
The football team plays next on Saturday, Sept 19 at the Centennial Homecoming game at 3 p.m. vs. Vermilion.
The Yellowjackets are ranked 12th in NJCAA polls, just ahead of Central Lakes. They are ranked first in the state.
The volleyball team played Wednesday, Sept. 9 at Riverland for sweeping win, the hosted the RCTC Invitational here on campus Friday and Saturday, Sept. 11 and 12.
On Wednesday, the Yellowjackets went 3-0, winning 25-10, 25-15, and 25-15.
Tori Peterson had 12 kills. Carly McCabe had 10 digs.
At the invitational, RCTC took on Des Moines first, losing 0-3, with set scores at 17-25, 12-25, and 22-25.
Maria Tibesar had five kills, and Jessica Foster had 10 digs, followed closely by Johanna Bungum and Carly McCabe with 9 each.
RCTC came back to win against Bismarck next, 3-2, with set scores at 25-22, 26-25, 25-22, 16-25, and 16-5.
Peterson had 16 kills, and Foster had 16 digs.
On Saturday, the Yellowjackets took on Central lakes, losing 0-3, with set scores at 16-25, 18-25, and 21-25.
Peterson had eight kills, and McCabe had 15 digs.
The final game of the invitation was a sweep of Ellsworth, winning sets at 25-20, 25-19, and 25-18.
Peterson had 11 kills and McCabe had 12 digs.
The Yellowjackets play next on Wednesday, Sept. 16, in the Centennial Homecoming game against Western Technical College at 6:30 p.m. here at RCTC.
The Yellowjackets are ranked fifth in NJCAA national polls.
The soccer team took on Anoka-Ramsey on Wednesday, Sept. 9, here at home and won 2-1 in overtime.
Hayley Aranda and Shannon DeMuth each scored a goal. Goalie Maddie Hardtke had seven saves.
The Yellowjackets play next on Wednesday, Sept. 16, for the Centennial Homecoming game at 5 p.m. at the Regional Stadium vs. Dakota County Technical College.
