Last week in athletics December 7
The men’s basketball team played three games in the past week, winning all three for a 7-0 season so far.
On Tuesday, Dec. 1, the Yellowjackets took on Gustavus JV at home, winning 91-69.
Ben Ratliff sank 19 points, two of which were three-pointers. Darrious Denson came close behind with 15 points. Demetrius Cady also sank two three-pointers, and Isaiah Coddon and Lydell Young grabbed one three-pointer each. The team was able snag more than 86% of its free-throws.
The Yellowjackets then hosted Vermilion on Friday, Dec. 4, winning 76-57.
Cady scored big with 16 points, and Coddon had 13. 15 of Cady’s points were three-pointers, and nine of Coddon’s. Ratliff also added three three-pointers to the score.
The team had 44 rebounds.
The following day on Saturday, Dec. 5, The Yellowjackets hosted Mesabi Range and won 94-77.
Marquise Walker sank 16 points, followed by Deonte Moore with 13. They each had one three-pointer, and Cady sank three.
The team had 51 rebounds, and more than 72% of their free throws went in the basket.
The Yellowjackets play next on Tuesday, Dec. 8, at 7 p.m. against Crossroads College here at RCTC.
The women’s basketball team brought home two wins the past week.
On Friday, Dec. 4, the Yellowjackets took on Vermilion and won 86-46.
Nathalie Ratliff and Johanna Bungum each sank 16 points. Ratliff had one three-pointer and Bungum two. Reed Klunder and Justine Gonzalez each had two three-pointers, and Brittany Ellis, Mckayla Ahlrich, and Victoria Asplund each sank a three-pointer.
The ladies sank 80% of their free throws and had 48 rebounds.
On Saturday, Dec. 5, the Yellowjackets took on Mesabi Range and won 69-47.
Asplund and Ratliff each sank 14 points. Ratliff had two three-pointers, and Bungum added another.
The team had 38 rebounds.
The Yellowjackets take on Luther JV next on Tuesday, Dec. 8, at 5 p.m. here at RCTC.
The wrestling team traveled to Moorhead for the Dragon Open on Saturday, Dec. 5.
In the Red Division (Upper Class): Coltan Laganiere placed fifth at the 157 weight class; Connor Hanson placed second and Tyler Vogt sixth at the 165 weight class; and Chase Nottestad placed sixth at the 285 weight class.
In the White Division (Lower Class): Austin Peper placed fifth at the 133 weight class; Zach Scott placed sixth at the 141 weight class; Hank Friederichs placed first and Deven Loepp fifth at the 157 weight class; and Ryan Jones placed first at the 197 weight class.
The wrestling team meets next at the Husky Open in St. Cloud on Saturday, Dec. 12, at 9 a.m.
The football team finished the season by playing in the Mississippi Bowl on Sunday, Dec. 6. For more information on this event, please check out this article.
