Men’s Basketball Week in Review Jan. 31

MBB2-640x533The Yellowjacket Men’s Basketball team was 2-0 for the week ending Jan. 26. The Yellowjackets defeated Anoka-Ramsey on Wednesday, Jan. 22 and Minnesota West on Saturday, Jan. 25. In the two games played this week, the Yellowjackets recorded 75-371 (54.7%) for field goals made-attempted, 13-45 (28.9%) for three-pointers made-attempted, 30-39 (66.7%) for free throws made-attempted, 97 rebounds, 15 steals, and 9 blocks.

Jumahri Turner (Minneapolis, MN) led the team in scoring in both games played last week. During the Anoka-Ramsey game, Turner recorded 24 points, 3 rebounds, and an assist, along with successfully shooting 9 of 9 free throw attempts. Rico Gunn (Minneapolis, MN) scored 22 points and had 5 rebounds, 4 assists, 3 steals, and 2 blocks as well as successfully shooting 6 of 6 free throw attempts. Chuck Robinson (Minneapolis, MN) had 19 points, 14 rebounds, a steal, and 6 blocks. Robert Claypool (Woodbury, MN) tallied 17 points, 2 rebounds, 2 assists, and 2 steals. RCTC defeated Anoka-Ramsey 105-99.

In the game against Minnesota State, Turner led the team once again with 21 points, 4 rebounds, an assist, and 2 steals, along with shooting 100% on his free throw attempts. Robert Claypool tallied 19 points, 5 rebounds, and 4 assists against Minnesota West. Chuck Robinson scored 12 points, had 5 rebounds, and a block. Lavar McCullough (Chicago, IL) and Cory Speer (Elgin, MN) each scored 8 points for the Yellowjackets. McCullough also successfully shot 100% on their free throws, 3 rebounds, and 2 assists. Speer also recorded 7 rebounds and 4 assists. The Yellowjackets won 88-69 against Minnesota West.

The Yellowjackets were ranked #3 in the Tuesday, Jan. 28 NJCAA Division III National polls.

The 16-3 Yellowjackets will travel to LaCrosse to take on Western Tech on Saturday, Feb. 1 at 3 p.m.
