Men’s basketball wins MCAC/Region XIII


The men’s basketball team is on its way to the NJCAA Division III National Tournament after winning the Region XIII and MCAC tournament.

On Friday, Feb. 26, the Yellowjackets beat Northland Community and Technical College by nearly double the points, 104-56.

Marquise Walker scored 16 points during the game, and Isaiah Oddon 13. Demetrius Cady sank two three-pointers during the game. The men sank nearly 75% of their free throws and had 44 rebounds.

The Yellowjackets then moved to the semifinals against Central Lakes, a tight game that led to overtime. The last time the two teams met, Central Lakes won by one point. The Yellowjackets prevailed in OT, winning 91-86.

After a lead in the first half, Central Lakes outscored RCTC in the second half to tie it up. RCTC’s 10 points in OT made the game.

Coddon snk 19 points during the game, followed by Cady with 18 and Walker with 17. Cady sank the only three pointers of the game with three.

The men then went to the finals against Vermilion, winning 76-69. The Yellowjackets trailed at the half, down six points, but pulled ahead in the second.

Walker scored 19 points and Coddon 18. Cady sank three three-pointers.

The team sank nearly 85% of its free throws and had 38 rebounds.

The Yellowjackets are ranked second in NJCAA national polls behind Rock Valley.
