RCTC Appoints New Athletic Director
(Rochester, MN)? Rochester Community and Technical College is pleased to announce Michael Lester will join the College as Athletic Director beginning next month.
Lester comes to RCTC from Saint Mary’s University of Minnesota (Winona), where he served for over 20 years in varying roles including Assistant Athletic Director, Director of Eligibility and Compliance, Director of the Recreational Athletic Facility, and Head Volleyball Coach. Lester brings to RCTC extensive experience in athlete eligibility requirements, budget oversight, athlete transfers, NCAA compliance, facility scheduling, athletic sponsorship and development, and event coordination and execution.
Michael is going to be a transformational leader for our Athletics Department, said Dr. Michael Anthony, Vice President of Student Affairs and Enrollment Management. His breadth and depth of experience, combined with his deep commitment to student success on and off the field greatly excited the search team. We are so fortunate to have him join the Yellowjacket family.
I want to thank Dr. Michael Anthony and the rest of the search committee for giving me this opportunity and showing their support in my goal of continuing and elevating the successes of RCTC athletics within the MCAC and the NJCAA, said Lester. I would also like to thank all of the student-athletes, coaches, and staff with whom I have been fortunate enough to work over the past 21 years at Saint Mary’s.
Reporting to the Vice President of Student Affairs and Enrollment Management, the Athletic Director directs and assesses all athletic teams, programs, and services, which support the academic mission and educational outcomes of the College. Further, the position is responsible for supervising all staff, facilities, and finances related to College athletics.
I am looking forward to working with, and for, the students, coaches and staff at RCTC, said Lester. The challenge to make positive and lasting changes in the student-athlete experience is one I am excited about tackling head on with the help of the RCTC students and staff.
Lester holds a Master’s Degree in Sports Management from Nova Southeastern University (Fort Lauderdale, FL) and a Bachelor’s Degree from Graceland College (now Graceland University, Lamoni, IA).
Lester begins on campus April 24th.
