RCTC Volleyball Team Wins MCAC Southern Division Title

Rochester, Minn. – The Rochester Community and Technical College volleyball team swept Ridgewater College Friday and Minnesota State Community and Technical College – Fergus Falls Saturday to earn the Minnesota College Athletic Conference Southern Division title in an undefeated season that saw them go 12-0.

The Yellowjacket volleyball team has lost one set in conference play this season.

Freshman Carrie Rutledge led the team on Friday with 19 kills and a .385 hitting percentage. She was also the only hitter in double figures, and Mariah Steinbach had 8 kills and a .312 hitting percentage. Katlyn Bade had 16 digs and Brekkin McCready had 37 assists.

Fergus Falls and RCTC threw down on Saturday in what as a match between two NJCAA Division III ranked teams. RCTC is currently ranked fourth while Fergus Falls is seventh. The Yellowjackets earned a .349 team hitting percentage, Rutledge led with 10 kills, and both Hailey Bahr and Kaelyn Marzolf combined for 13 kills.

Next up for the Yellowjackets is hosting the Region XIIIA Championship where they face St. Cloud Technical College on Friday, Nov. 2. Should they win, they will face either Ridgewater or Fergus Falls on Saturday, Nov. 3.

Success at the region championship earns the team a trip to the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) national tournament.
