World Drum Ensemble Performance

Rochester Community and Technical College is proud to present a performance from our World Drum Ensemble on Tuesday, December 8, at 7 p.m. in the College Center’s third floor Dining Room. This musical performance represents a synthesis of styles that come from both Africa and Europe.

Denny McGuire, RCTC Music Instructor and ensemble director notes ?we?ll also feature songs from Cuba accompanied by the African derived style known as Bembe, and two original pieces will be performed.

The World Drum Ensemble is comprised of 13 members who will be playing drums from a number of countries including samba drums from Brazil; conga drums from Cuba; and gourds and bells from Ghana. The Ensemble will perform a song from northeastern Brazil with guitar, bass and cavaquinho (Brazilian ukulele) in addition to the percussion. The group will also be singing several songs in languages representing various cultures.
