Wells, a journalist and women\u2019s suffrage activist; Shirley Chisholm, the first African-American in the U.S. Congress and the first African-American woman to run for president; and Sally Hemings, the slave with whom Thomas Jefferson fathered six children. The music is drawn from classical, jazz, and popular works by African-American composers.
