Course Description

This course will cover the Fundamentals of automatic transmission/transaxles. We will explore all the internal parts of a modern Automatic Transmission. This class aligns with ASE standard: Automatic Transmission/Transaxle

Learning Outcomes (General)

The student will be able to:

  1. Explain the various settings and functions of a gear selector.
  2. Analyze the components, function, and operation of a torque converter, including its principles of fluid coupling and torque multiplication.
  3. Troubleshoot and pinpoint failures in planetary gear sets.
  4. Evaluate and pinpoint failure modes in automatic transmission brake bands and multi-plate clutch packs using diagnostic procedures.
  5. Accurately diagnose common automatic transmission valve body faults upon completion.
